TCB BRENGT DE SECTOR SAMEN TIJDENS DE JAARLIJKSE BONAIRE TOURISM SUMMIT 2026: ‘EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED’
Kralendijk,- Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB) heeft op 24 september met succes de jaarlijkse Bonaire Tourism Summit 2026 georganiseerd in het Van der Valk Plaza Resort Bonaire. Het evenement bracht toerismeprofessionals, vertegenwoordigers van de overheid, partners uit de sector, studenten en internationale deskundigen samen onder het thema van dit jaar: ‘Everything is Connected – Alles is met elkaar verbonden’.
Tijdens de top werden de vele factoren besproken die bepalend zijn voor de toeristische toekomst van Bonaire, waaronder kunstmatige intelligentie, wereldwijde reistrends, bestemmingsbeheer, luchtverbindingen, gastvrijheid, cruisetoerisme, duurzaamheid, betrokkenheid van de gemeenschap en productontwikkeling. Het programma bood sprekers een platform om inzichten te delen en te bespreken hoe deze verschillende elementen elkaar beïnvloeden en uiteindelijk gevolgen hebben voor de toeristische sector en de samenleving van het eiland.
Het ochtendprogramma werd geopend door Boudino de Jong, medeoprichter en hoofd innovatie bij Profound, met de presentatie ‘The Intelligent Destination: Data, AI, and Bonaire’s Next Chapter’. In zijn presentatie ging hij in op de manier waarop kunstmatige intelligentie en data kunnen bijdragen aan slimmer bestemmingsbeheer en besluitvorming, waardoor Bonaire meer inzicht krijgt in bezoekerswaarde, duurzaamheid en het evenwicht tussen de groei van het toerisme en de capaciteit van het eiland.
Olivier Ponti, directeur Market Intelligence and Insights bij Amadeus, hield een presentatie met als titel ‘Wereldwijde reistrends omzetten in toeristische kansen voor Bonaire’, waarin hij een mondiaal perspectief bood op de veranderende reistrends en liet zien hoe marktinformatie Bonaire kan helpen bij het identificeren van nieuwe toeristische kansen.
Een belangrijk moment tijdens de top was de presentatie van Elesiër Angel, directeur van Tourism Corporation Bonaire, die het toerisme in het bredere kader van de economische, ecologische, culturele en maatschappelijke prioriteiten van Bonaire plaatste. Ze benadrukte dat toerisme de levenskwaliteit van de inwoners moet versterken en tegelijkertijd de natuurlijke en culturele rijkdommen van het eiland moet beschermen.
Aan de hand van actuele toeristische gegevens belichtte Angel het aantal van 199.084 verblijfstoeristen op Bonaire in 2025 en de stand van zaken in het toerisme, waarbij ze inging op de huidige verschuivingen in bezoekersmarkten, luchtvaartcapaciteit, reisgedrag, verblijfsduur en toeristische uitgaven. Ze schetste ook de vijf strategische pijlers van TCB: Samenleving & Inclusie; Positionering & Wereldwijd Imago; Hoogwaardig Toerisme met Lage Impact; Duurzame Productontwikkeling; en Monitoring, Data & Evaluatie. Daarnaast bracht ze het nieuwe onderzoek naar het sentiment bij de inwoners onder de aandacht, dat tot doel heeft de perspectieven van de gemeenschap van Bonaire centraal te stellen in de toeristische planning.
Met het oog op het komende decennium presenteerde Angel de routekaart voor 2027–2037 als een uitvoerbaar kader dat aansluit bij de bredere ‘Visie Bonaire’ van de overheid. De focus ligt niet alleen op bezoekersaantallen, maar ook op lokaal behouden waarde, het welzijn van de inwoners, ecologische draagkracht en kwalitatieve groei. Ze benadrukte dat het doel niet louter is om een uitzonderlijke bestemming voor bezoekers te creëren, maar in de eerste plaats een eiland waar elke Bonairiaan zich kan ontplooien. Ze sloot af met een oproep aan toeristische bedrijven, de overheid, inwoners en andere stakeholders om gezamenlijk verantwoordelijkheid te nemen voor het vormgeven van de toekomst van Bonaire.
“Everything is connected – alles hangt met elkaar samen, en dat betekent dat de toekomst van het toerisme niet door TCB alleen kan worden bepaald. Het is onze verantwoordelijkheid om de voorwaarden te scheppen waaronder toerisme de levenskwaliteit kan verbeteren, de natuur kan beschermen en onze cultuur kan versterken. Dat vereist dat ieder van ons – overheid, bedrijven, inwoners en partners – doelgericht zijn steentje bijdraagt,” aldus Elesiër Angel, directeur van TCB.
“We moeten ook eerlijk zijn over hoe het toerisme tot nu toe is gefinancierd en waar we in de loop der jaren in hebben geïnvesteerd. The summit explored the many factors shaping Bonaire’s tourism future, including artificial intelligence, global travel trends, destination management, air connectivity, hospitality, cruise tourism, sustainability, community engagement, and product development. The program provided a platform for speakers to share insights and discuss how these different elements influence one another and ultimately affect the island’s tourism sector and community.
The morning program opened with Boudino de Jong, Co-Founder and Innovation Head at Profound, who presented The Intelligent Destination: Data, AI, and Bonaire’s Next Chapter. His presentation explored how artificial intelligence and data can support smarter destination management and decision-making, helping Bonaire better understand visitor value, sustainability, and the balance between tourism growth and the island’s capacity.

She also outlined TCB’s five strategic pillars: Community & Inclusion; Positioning & Global Image; High-Value, Low-Impact Tourism; Sustainable Product Development; and Monitoring, Data & Evaluation. She further highlighted the new resident sentiment study, designed to place the perspectives of Bonaire’s community at the heart of tourism planning.
Looking toward the next decade, Angel positioned the 2027–2037 roadmap as an actionable framework aligned with the government’s broader Bonaire Vision. Its focus extends beyond visitor numbers to locally retained value, resident well-being, ecological capacity, and quality growth. She stressed that the goal is not simply to create an exceptional destination for visitors, but firstly an island where every Bonairean can thrive. She concluded with a call for tourism businesses, government, residents, and other stakeholders to take shared responsibility for shaping Bonaire’s future.
“Everything is connected, and that means the future of tourism cannot be written by TCB alone. Our responsibility is to create the conditions for tourism to strengthen quality of life, protect nature, and uplift our culture. That requires each of us government, businesses, residents, and partners to do our part with purpose,” said Elesiër Angel, CEO of TCB.

His presentation offered a regional perspective on the changing role of destination organizations and the shift from primarily marketing destinations to a broader destination management approach.
