Kralendijk,- Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB) en Fundashon Históriko Kultural Boneriano (FuHiKuBo) bundelen samen met de wandelgroep Chantiwawa hun krachten om wandelen op Bonaire toegankelijker, zichtbaarder en aangenamer te maken voor zowel inwoners als bezoekers.

Door middel van deze samenwerking zullen de organisaties samenwerken om geselecteerde wandelroutes op het eiland verder te ontwikkelen en te promoten, waardoor mensen de kans krijgen om de natuur, de cultuur en de geschiedenis van Bonaire te voet te beleven.

Chantiwawa, een groep natuurliefhebbers en vrijwilligers die onder FuHiKuBo actief is, brengt ruime ervaring mee op het gebied van het in kaart brengen, vrijmaken, markeren en onderhouden van wandelroutes. FuHiKuBo draagt bij met haar historische en culturele kennis, terwijl TCB de digitalisering en promotie van de routes zal ondersteunen.

Een belangrijk onderdeel van de samenwerking is het verbeteren van de digitale toegankelijkheid en de bewegwijzering. Op geselecteerde wandelroutes zal digitale informatie beschikbaar worden gesteld, waaronder kaarten, routebeschrijvingen, moeilijkheidsgraden, bezienswaardigheden en relevante culturele en historische informatie. Bewegwijzering bij het begin van de routes, met onder meer QR-codes die naar de digitale informatie leiden, in combinatie met markeringen langs de routes, zal wandelaars helpen om zich gemakkelijker en veiliger op de routes te oriënteren.

“Bonaire heeft zoveel meer te bieden dan alleen de bekende kust- en duikervaringen. Onze wandelroutes bieden een andere manier om het eiland, de natuur, de geschiedenis en de cultuur te ontdekken. Door middel van deze samenwerking willen we deze ervaringen makkelijker vindbaar en toegankelijk maken en tegelijkertijd mensen aanmoedigen om Bonaire op een verantwoorde manier te verkennen,” aldus Elesiër Angel, directeur van TCB.

De samenwerking is ook gericht op het versterken van de waardering voor het erfgoed van Bonaire door bezoekers en inwoners te verbinden met de verhalen, landschappen en culturele elementen die te vinden zijn langs de wandelroutes van het eiland.

De partijen zullen beginnen met het in kaart brengen van een aantal nieuwe en bestaande wandelroutes voor digitalisering, verbeterde bewegwijzering, onderhoud en promotie, waarna er nog meer routes en activiteiten voor de samenleving zullen volgen.

TCB, FuHiKuBo en Chantiwawa kijken ernaar uit om meer mensen aan te moedigen Bonaire te voet te ontdekken, op een veilige en verantwoorde manier, en met een diepere waardering voor de unieke natuur, cultuur en het erfgoed van het eiland.

Kralendijk,- Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB) and Fundashon Históriko Kultural Boneriano (FuHiKuBo), together with the Chantiwawa hiking group, are joining forces to make hiking on Bonaire more accessible, visible, and enjoyable for both residents and visitors.

Through this collaboration, the organizations will work together to further develop and promote selected hiking routes across the island, offering people the opportunity to experience Bonaire’s nature, culture, and history on foot.

Chantiwawa, a group of nature lovers and volunteers operating under FuHiKuBo, brings extensive experience in identifying, clearing, marking, and maintaining hiking trails. FuHiKuBo will contribute its historical and cultural knowledge, while TCB will support the digitalization and promotion of the routes.

A key part of the collaboration will be improving digital accessibility and wayfinding. Selected trails will receive digital information, including maps, route details, difficulty levels, points of interest, and relevant cultural and historical information. Signage at trailheads, including QR codes linking to the digital information, together with markers along the routes, will help hikers navigate the trails more easily and safely.

“Bonaire has so much to offer beyond its well-known coastal and underwater experiences. Our hiking trails provide another way to discover the island, its nature, history, and culture. Through this collaboration, we want to make these experiences easier to find and access while encouraging people to explore Bonaire responsibly,” said Elesiër Angel, Director of TCB.

The collaboration also aims to strengthen appreciation for Bonaire’s heritage by connecting visitors and residents with the stories, landscapes, and cultural elements found along the island’s hiking routes.

The Parties will begin by identifying selected new and existing trails for digitalization, improved signage, maintenance, and promotion, with additional routes and community activities to follow.

TCB, FuHiKuBo, and Chantiwawa look forward to encouraging more people to discover Bonaire on foot, safely, responsibly, and with a deeper appreciation for the island’s unique nature, culture, and heritage.
