CUROIL BONAIRE FACILITIES AT HATO DEPOT MODERNIZED TO MEET PERMIT REQUIREMENTS

IN THE COMING WEEKS, THE INSTALLATIONS WILL BE TESTED AND STAFF WILL RECEIVE TRAINING.

Kralendijk — In March 2025, Curoil Bonaire initiated the process of modernizing its installations at Hato Depot in accordance with the latest safety regulations, before the current temporary nuisance permit (hinder vergunning) expires on April 1, 2026.

As planned, the construction and modernization works were successfully completed to meet the latest safety standards.

Initially, Curoil Bonaire had intended to relocate terminal operations from Hato Depot to a new terminal at Airport Zuid, originally known as Brandstof Terminal Bonaire and later as Bonaire Bon Transition (BBT).

From the moment Curoil Bonaire received confirmation that the new terminal project at Airport Zuid would not proceed, the company initiated the necessary works to meet the requirements for modernizing its facilities at Hato Depot within the stipulated one-year timeframe. During this period, a total of USD 6 million was invested in the Hato Depot facilities to continue guaranteeing fuel supply to Bonaire.

The works included, among other things, various adaptations to the tanks to ensure operations that are more environmentally sound, the construction of a new foundation for several installations on the site, the installation of a completely new electrical system, and a new fire suppression system which was successfully tested this past Monday and Tuesday.

In anticipation of possible follow up actions that may result from these tests, Curoil Bonaire has proactively submitted a request to Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport (ILT) for an extension of the grace period (begunstigingstermijn) until July 1, 2026. In the coming weeks, the modernized infrastructure will be brought into operation, various staff training sessions will be organized, and relevant documentation related to the processes and procedures of the adapted installations will be finalized.

At the same time, Curoil Bonaire will continue with the modernization of additional tanks at the Hato terminal.
