565 KORAALDUIVELS GEVANGEN TIJDENS LIONFISH DERBY 2026

Kralendijk – STINAPA kondigt met trots aan dat de Lionfish Derby van 2026 in het Washington Slagbaai Park een succes was.

Na het lange afwachten, zag de Derby toch een geweldige opkomst. De nieuwe en terugkerende teams die deelnamen, hielpen mee de koraalduivelpopulatie onder controle te houden.

De zeventien teams die deelnamen aan de Derby vingen in totaal 565 koraalduivels.

Dit is meer dan de gevangen koraalduivel tijdens de Derby van 2024 (maar liefst 508).

Drie teams gingen naar huis met prijzen voor het vangen van de meeste koraalduivels, de grootste koraalduivel en de kleinste koraalduivel.

De winnende teams waren:

• Meeste koraalduivels: Dive Air Station met een totaal van 106 koraalduivels;
• Grootste koraalduivel: Lionfish Busters met een vis van 40.2 centimeter;
• En kleinste koraalduivel: License to Kill met een vis van 8 centimeter.

STINAPA dankt alle teams die deelnamen, vrijwilligers, partners, donateurs en het STINAPA-team voor hun bijdrage aan het behoud van het Bonaire National Marine Park. We kijken uit naar de volgende derby!

565 LIONFISH CAUGHT DURING LIONFISH DERBY 2026

Kralendijk – STINAPA is proud to announce that the 2026 Lionfish Derby in the Washington Slagbaai Park was a success.

After a long wait, the derby saw an amazing turnout, with both new and returning teams joining to help control the lionfish population.

The seventeen participating teams caught 565 lionfish in total. This surpasses the total of 508 in 2024. Three teams left with prizes for catching the most lionfish, the biggest lionfish, and the smallest lionfish.

The winning teams were:

• Most lionfish: Dive Air Station with a total of 106 lionfish;
• Biggest lionfish: Lionfish Busters with their biggest fish measuring 40.2 centimeters;
• and smallest lionfish: License to Kill with their smallest fish measuring 8 centimeters.

A huge thanks goes out to all participating teams, volunteers, partners, donors, and the STINAPA-team for their contributions to preserving the Bonaire National Marine Park. We are looking forward to the next Derby!
