BONAIRE RESPETÁ: EERSTE ACTIEPUNT VOOR NIEUWE POLITIEKE PARTIJ

Kralendijk,- Suggestie voor de naam is: ‘Bonaire Respetá’. Deze naam zegt twee dingen tegelijk. Er staat ‘Bonaire’, niet ‘Boneiru’, omdat we in 2004 gekozen hebben om integraal deel van Nederland te worden.

De keuze voor ‘Bonaire’ (de officiële naam) brengt dit tot uitdrukking. Het tweede woord ‘respetá’ is Papiaments en benadrukt dat het Bonaireaanse volk gerespecteerd wil worden. Bonaire is van ons allemaal, maar er is te weinig respect voor de oorspronkelijke Bonairianen. Dat moet worden verbeterd.

Oké, als je gerespecteerd wil worden, moet je allereerst zelf ook anderen respecteren. Maar tegelijkertijd moeten Bonairianen ook assertiever worden. Nier agressief. Dat niet. Bonairianen zijn nederig, zoals ons volkslied bevestigt. Dat is mooi.

Dat moet blijven. Maar assertiviteit is niet hetzelfde als agressiviteit. Assertief zijn betekent allereerst dat je precies weet wat je wil. En vervolgens vastberaden en met insistentie handelen tot het doel is bereikt. Zonder agressief te worden.

In deze context, suggereren wij dat het eerste actiepunt van de partij ‘Bonaire Respetá’ zou moeten zijn om meer lokale autonomie te verkrijgen. Wij bevelen het federale model aan.
Wij blijven integraal deel van Nederland, in de Grondwet, maar op basis van het federale systeem. Dan kan Bonaire in beginsel evenveel autonomie krijgen als Curaçao en Aruba.

Een beetje anders uitgewerkt, maar essentieel hetzelfde potentieel. Onze aanbeveling is om politie en justitie in handen van Nederland te laten. De rest, hetzelfde als Curaçao. De munt blijft de US-dollar. Als dit om een of andere reden een probleem wordt, dan de Euro.

Dus, onze aanbeveling voor de partij ‘Bonaire Respetá’ is om zo snel mogelijk een referendum te organiseren om zich over het federale principe uit te spreken. De procedure op zich om tot een referendum te komen duurt ongeveer 2 tot 3 jaar. Als de bevolking dit in meerderheid wenst, dan kan de overdracht van taken en bevoegdheden – één voor één – in ongeveer 20 jaar zijn beslag krijgen. Alles in goede samenwerking met Nederland. Aan het einde van deze 20 jaar zal Bonaire dan ongeveer 50 duizend inwoners tellen.

Maar, onthoudt goed. Men moet assertief optreden. Dus eerst zeker weten dat we dit willen. Daarna keihard werken en aandringen tot het doel is bereikt. Geen stap terug. Assertiviteit.

Nota bene. Ondergetekende zal hier NIET actief in deelnemen.

Wij doen slechts suggesties. Jonge Bonairianen moeten aan de bak. De eerste reden waarom een nieuwe politieke partij nodig is, is omdat de traditionele partijen nooit veranderd zijn nadat Arthur Sealy ze +/- 40 jaar geleden als ‘traditionele’ partijen bestempelde. Ik ben bereid te helpen en adviseren, maar wens geen actieve functie. Ik zal wel gaan stemmen.

BONAIRE RESPETÁ: FIRST POINT OF ACTION FOR A NEW POLITICAL PARTY

The suggested name is: ‘Bonaire Respetá’. This name says two things. We write ‘Bonaire’, not ‘Boneiru’, because in 2004 we chose to become an integral part of Holland. Choosing the word ‘Bonaire’ (the official name) expresses this.

The second word, ‘respetá’, is Papiamento andemphasizes that the Bonairean people want to be respected. Bonaire belongs to all of us, but there is too little respect for the original Bonaireans. That must be improved.

Okay, if you want to be respected, you yourself must first respect others. But at the same time, Bonaireans also need to become more assertive. Not aggressive. Not that. Bonaireans are humble, as our national anthem confirms.

That is beautiful. That must stay. But assertiveness is not the same as aggressiveness. Being assertive means first of all knowing exactly what you want. And then acting with determination and consistency until the goal is reached. Without becoming aggressive.

In this context, the first point of action for the “Bonaire Respetá” party should be to achieve greater local autonomy. We recommend the federal model. We remain an integral part of Holland, within the Dutch Constitution, but based on the federal system. This would allow Bonaire, in principle, to have the same amount of autonomy as Curaçao and Aruba. It might be implemented slightly differently, but essentially the same potential. Our recommendation is to leave the police and justice system in the hands of Holland. The rest, the same as Curaçao. The currency remains the US$. If this becomes a problem, we adopt the Euro.

Therefore, our recommendation for the “Bonaire Respetá” party is to organize a referendum as soon as possible to express its opinion on the federal principle. The referendum process itself takes approx. 2 to 3 years. If the majority of the population so desires, the transfer of tasks and powers—one by one—could be completed in about 20 years. All this should be done in close cooperation with Holland. At the end of these 20 years, Bonaire will have approx. 50,000 inhabitants.

But remember: we must act assertively. So first, certainty that this is what we really want. Then, work hard and insist until the goal is reached. Don’t back out. Assertiveness.

Note. The undersigned will NOT actively participate in this. We are merely making suggestions. Young Bonaireans need to get to work. The first reason why a new political party is needed, is because the traditional parties have never changed since Arthur Sealy labeled them “traditional” parties some 40 years ago. I am willing to help and advise, but I do not wish to take an active role. But I will vote, naturally.
