HULANDA: CARE CARIBEAN: KONEKSHON DEN SEKTOR DI SALÚ TA KRUSIAL

Amsterdam, – Om de Caribische zorg- en welzijnssector verder te ontwikkelen is een stevigere verbinding tussen werkgevers en potentiële werknemers van cruciaal belang.

Dat bleek zaterdag 15 november tijdens de 3e editie van CARE Caribbean, een tweejaarlijks netwerkevent met banenmarkt dat specifiek gericht is op zorgprofessionals en studenten met interesse in een carrière op Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius, Curaçao, Aruba of Sint Maarten.

Caribische studenten en professionals en de diaspora in Nederland hebben anno 2025 nog steeds veel behoefte aan duidelijke informatie over hun toekomstperspectief op de zes eilanden van het Koninkrijk.

Dat bleek tijdens het plenaire programma van het event waarin in drie verschillende blokken met panelsprekers werd gesproken.

Thema’s die aan bod kwamen waren: de behoefte aan een remigratiebeleid om binding met de eilanden te stimuleren, ontwikkelmogelijkheden voor zorgprofessionals op de eilanden en manieren om terugkeer en braingain te bevorderen.

Aan de wil om in de zorg en/of welzijnssector te gaan werken ligt het niet. Meer dan de helft van de aanwezigen tijdens het plenaire programma van het event geeft aan graag op een van de eilanden te willen werken.

Ondanks het digitale tijdperk is het voor velen echter nog steeds niet eenvoudig om een helder beeld te krijgen van carrière- en ontwikkelmogelijkheden op de eilanden. Er blijkt veel behoefte aan een sterkere verbinding en aan overzichtelijke informatie, zodat werknemers en werkgevers elkaar beter weten te vinden.

Die verbinding wordt daarna meteen in de praktijk gebracht tijdens de banenmarkt en speeddates tussen werkgevers en potentiële werknemers. Op de banenmarkt zijn zeven werkgevers uit Bonaire en twee uit Curaçao aanwezig om vacatures onder de aandacht te brengen en om nieuwe contacten en inspiratie op te doen.

Daarnaast is er een rijk gevulde vacaturewall met vacatures van werkgevers uit Sint Maarten, Curaçao en Bonaire die niet live aanwezig konden zijn. CARE Caribbean wordt georganiseerd door Stichting WeConnect en AMA en werd mogelijk gemaakt door een bijdrage van het ministerie van Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport (VWS) in Nederland.

WeConnect is een educatieve stichting die zich inzet om het Caribisch deel van het Koninkrijk (Curaçao, Aruba, Sint-Maarten en de BES-eilanden) te verbinden met het Europees deel van het Koninkrijk (Nederland).

De hoofddoelgroep bestaat uit Caribische studenten en (young) professionals in Nederland. AMA is de vereniging van Caribische zorgprofessionals in Nederland.

De vereniging heeft als doel het verbinden van alle (bio)medische, farmaceutische en gezondheidswetenschappers, andere zorgprofessionals en paramedici met een hart voor de Nederlands Caribische eilanden.

CARE CARIBBEAN: CONNECTION IN THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR IS CRUCIAL

Amsterdam,- To further develop the Caribbean healthcare and welfare sector, a stronger connection between employers and potential employees is of vital importance.

This became evident on Saturday, 15 November, during the 3rd edition of CARE Caribbean, a biennial networking event and job fair specifically aimed at healthcare professionals and students interested in a career on Bonaire, Saba, St. Eustatius, Curaçao, Aruba, or St. Maarten.

Caribbean students and professionals, as well as the diaspora in the Netherlands, still have a great need for clear information regarding their future prospects on the six islands of the Kingdom in 2025. This emerged during the event’s plenary program, which featured three thematic segments with panel speakers.

Topics discussed included: the need for a remigration policy to stimulate connection with the islands, development opportunities for healthcare professionals on the islands, and ways to encourage return and brain gain.

The willingness to work in the healthcare and/or welfare sector is certainly present. More than half of those attending the plenary program indicated that they would like to work on one of the islands.

Despite the digital age, many still find it challenging to gain a clear picture of career and development opportunities on the islands. There appears to be a strong need for better connection and accessible information, enabling employees and employers to find each other more effectively.

This connection is immediately put into practice during the job fair and speed dates between employers and potential employees. Seven employers from Bonaire and two from Curaçao are present at the job fair to highlight vacancies and to make new contacts and gain inspiration.

In addition, there is a well-stocked vacancy wall featuring job postings from employers on St. Maarten, Curaçao, and Bonaire who could not attend in person. CARE Caribbean is organized by the WeConnect Foundation and AMA and was made possible by a contribution from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) in the Netherlands.

WeConnect is an educational foundation dedicated to connecting the Caribbean part of the Kingdom (Curaçao, Aruba, St. Maarten, and the BES islands) with the European part of the Kingdom (the Netherlands).
