STATEMENT KORPSCHEF ALWYN BRAAF: GEWELD EN INTIMIDATIE TEGEN POLITIEAGENTEN WORDEN NIET GETOLEREERD

Het incident waarbij op de auto van een politieagent is geschoten, is zeer ernstig. Het Korps Politie Caribisch Nederland (KPCN) neemt dit incident dan ook zeer serieus. Het onderzoek bevindt zich in de opstartfase en wordt zorgvuldig en voortvarend uitgevoerd.   Geweld, bedreiging en intimidatie tegen politieagenten zijn volstrekt onacceptabel. Onze politiemensen moeten hun werk veilig kunnen doen, zonder te worden bedreigd, geïntimideerd of aangevallen. KPCN staat achter zijn medewerkers en zet zich onverminderd in voor hun veiligheid en bescherming.   Wij tolereren geen intimidatie. Wij blijven professioneel, daadkrachtig en eensgezind optreden en doen wat van ons wordt verwacht: onze samenleving dienen en beschermen.   Illegale vuurwapens vormen een directe bedreiging voor de veiligheid van de samenleving. Het illegaal bezit en gebruik van vuurwapens en het daarmee bedreigen van anderen nemen wij zeer serieus. Daartegen treden wij krachtig op. KPCN blijft zich inzetten om illegale vuurwapens op te sporen en van straat te halen.

Als Korpschef wil ik daar geen misverstand over laten bestaan: wie geweld gebruikt tegen onze medewerkers, hen bedreigt of probeert te intimideren, bereikt daarmee niet dat wij terugdeinzen. Wij blijven ons werk doen en zullen binnen de grenzen van de wet krachtig optreden tegen personen die dergelijke grenzen overschrijden.

STATEMENT BY CHIEF OF POLICE ALWYN BRAAF: VIOLENCE AND INTIMIDATION AGAINST POLICE OFFICERS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED

The incident in which a police officer’s vehicle was shot at is a grave matter. The Caribbean Netherlands Police Force (KPCN) is taking this incident very seriously. The investigation is currently in its initial stage and is being carried out thoroughly and decisively.   Violence, threats, and intimidation against police officers are completely unacceptable. Our officers must be able to do their work safely, without being threatened, intimidated, or attacked. KPCN stands firmly behind its personnel and remains fully committed to their safety and protection.   We will not tolerate intimidation. We will continue to act professionally, decisively and united, carrying out what is expected of us: to serve and protect our community.   Illegal firearms pose a direct threat to the safety of our community.  The illegal possession and use of firearms, as well as the use of firearms to threaten others, are matters we take very seriously. We will take firm action against this. KPCN remains dedicated to locating illegal firearms and removing them from the streets.

As Chief of Police, I want to leave no room for misunderstanding: anyone who uses violence against our personnel, threatens them, or attempts to intimidate them will not cause us to back down. We will continue to do our work and, within the boundaries of the law, take firm action against those who cross this line.
