ZR.MS. FRIESLAND WEER TERUG IN HET CARIBISCH GEBIED

Willemstad,- Het marineschip Zr.Ms. Friesland is vandaag weer aangekomen in de haven van Willemstad. Na een periode van drie maanden in Nederland is Zr.Ms. Friesland weer terug in het Caribisch gebied en neemt het de taak van stationsschip in het Caribisch gebied over van Zr.Ms. Groningen. Het schip patrouilleert de komende maanden in de regio en staat daarnaast gereed voor het leveren van noodhulp.

Zr.Ms. Groningen voerde de afgelopen maanden patrouilles uit in het Caribisch gebied. Het stationsschip vormde daarmee de oren en ogen van Defensie in het Caribisch gebied op zee en bracht met haar monitoring de veiligheidssituatie in de regio in kaart. Het schip leverde daarnaast ondersteuning aan de Kustwacht Caribisch Gebied bij de opsporing en onderschepping van drugstransporten.

Aardbeving Venezuela

Eind juni leverde Zr.Ms. Groningen een bijdrage aan de hulpverlening na de aardbevingen in Venezuela. Het stationsschip bracht tienduizenden kilo’s aan hulpgoederen naar de getroffen gebieden, waaronder drinkwater, voedsel en medische voorraden voor gewonden en mensen die hun woning kwijt waren geraakt.

Met de aanwezigheid van een stationsschip in de regio draagt Defensie bij aan vrede en veiligheid in het Caribisch gebied.

HNLMS FRIESLAND RETURNS TO THE CARIBBEAN

Willemstad,- The naval vessel HNLMS Friesland arrived in the port of Willemstad today. After a three-month period in the Netherlands, HNLMS Friesland has returned to the Caribbean to take over the role of station ship from HNLMS Groningen. The ship will patrol the region in the coming months and stand ready to provide emergency assistance.

HNLMS Groningen conducted patrols in the Caribbean over the past few months. As the station ship, it served as the eyes and ears of Defence at sea in the Caribbean Region and has been mapping the security situation through its monitoring activities. The ship also supported the Caribbean Coast Guard in detecting and intercepting drug shipments.

Earthquake in Venezuela

In late June, HNLMS Groningen contributed to relief efforts following the earthquakes in Venezuela. The station ship transported tens of thousands of kilograms of relief supplies to the affected areas, including drinking water, food, and medical supplies for the injured and for people who had lost their homes.

With the presence of a station ship in the region, the Dutch Armed Forces contribute to peace and security in the Caribbean Region.
