BONAIRE SCHRIJFT GESCHIEDENIS MET EERSTE MEISJESBASKETBALTEAM U12-TEAM VERTEGENWOORDIGT HET EILAND TIJDENS HET HER WAY-TOERNOOI OP CURAÇAO
Kralendijk, – De Bonaire Basketball Federation maakt met trots een historische mijlpaal voor het basketbal op het eiland bekend. Voor het eerst in de geschiedenis reist een meisjesbasketbalteam uit Bonaire buiten het eiland om aan een toernooi deel te nemen. Het BBF U12-meisjesteam komt uit tijdens het Her Way-toernooi op Curaçao.
Het team bestaat uit Eliza Koeks, Kamilah Ramos en Danna Martinez en staat onder leiding van coach Eddy Carrillo. Hun deelname is meer dan alleen een toernooi: zij vormt het begin van een nieuwe ontwikkelingsroute voor meisjes binnen het basketbal op Bonaire.
Jarenlang hadden meisjes op Bonaire die wilden basketballen nauwelijks mogelijkheden om in een meisjesgroep te trainen of wedstrijden te spelen. BBF werkt doelgericht aan verandering door meisjesclinics te organiseren, wekelijkse trainingen op te zetten en het programma She Got Game verder uit te bouwen. Zo ontstaat een veilige en stimulerende omgeving waarin jonge speelsters het spel kunnen leren, zelfvertrouwen kunnen ontwikkelen en toekomstperspectief krijgen binnen de sport.
Dit eerste U12-team is een belangrijk resultaat van die inzet. De drie speelsters dragen op Curaçao niet alleen de vlag van Bonaire, maar zijn ook pioniers voor de meisjes die na hen zullen volgen. Hun deelname biedt waardevolle internationale ervaring en laat gezinnen op het eiland zien dat het meisjesbasketbal op Bonaire groeit.
BBF blijft investeren in meisjesbasketbal door middel van structurele trainingen, talentontwikkeling en toernooien, in samenwerking met Indebon en de Nederlandse Basketball Bond (NBB). Het doel is om duurzame meisjesteams in meerdere leeftijdscategorieën op te bouwen en uiteindelijk een sterke, blijvende meisjescompetitie op Bonaire te realiseren.

BONAIRE MAKES HISTORY WITH FIRST GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM U12 TEAM TO REPRESENT THE ISLAND AT THE HER WAY TOURNAMENT IN CURAÇAO
Kralendijk,- The Bonaire Basketball Federation proudly announces a historic milestone for basketball on the island. For the first time ever, a girls basketball team from Bonaire will travel off-island to compete, as the BBF U12 girls take part in the Her Way tournament in Curaçao.
The team consists of Eliza Koeks, Kamilah Ramos and Danna Martinez, under the guidance of coach Eddy Carrillo. Their participation is more than a tournament appearance: it marks the arrival of a new pathway for girls in Bonaire basketball.
For many years, girls on Bonaire who wanted to play basketball had few opportunities to train or compete in a girls-only environment. BBF has worked deliberately to change that reality by organizing girls clinics, establishing weekly practices and building the She Got Game program. These efforts are creating a welcoming structure in which young players can learn the game, develop confidence and see a future for themselves in basketball.
This first U12 team is an important result of that work. The three players now carry the Bonaire flag as pioneers for the girls who will follow them. Their participation in Curaçao also gives them valuable international experience and shows families across the island that girls basketball on Bonaire is growing.
BBF will continue investing in girls basketball through regular training, player development and tournaments, in cooperation with Indebon and the Nederlandse Basketball Bond (NBB). The federation’s goal is to build lasting girls teams in multiple age categories and, in time, create a strong and sustainable girls competition on Bonaire.
