Op 1 januari 2025 telde Caribisch Nederland bijna 32 duizend inwoners. Dat zijn er 1 583 meer (5 procent) dan een jaar eerder. De toename komt voor een groot deel doordat de bevolking op Bonaire groeide, voornamelijk door migratie. Ook op Sint Eustatius en Saba nam het aantal inwoners toe door migratie. Dat meldt het CBS op basis van nieuwe cijfers.

Bonaire had 26 552 inwoners op 1 januari 2025, 1 419 meer (6 procent) dan een jaar eerder. Deze groei kwam met name doordat veel meer mensen op Bonaire gingen wonen dan dat er vertrokken (1 220) en in beperkte mate door natuurlijke aanwas (82, het aantal geboorten min het aantal overledenen). Het aantal mensen op Bonaire dat geboren is buiten Caribisch Nederland nam toe met 1 345 personen, er woonden meer mensen die zijn geboren in Europees Nederland, Colombia, Curaçao en de Dominicaanse Republiek.

Aantal inwoners Sint Eustatius met 66 toegenomen

Op 1 januari 2025 had Sint Eustatius 3 270 inwoners, 66 meer (2 procent) dan begin 2024. De groei kwam vooral doordat meer mensen op het eiland gingen wonen dan er vertrokken. De natuurlijke aanwas was beperkt. Het aantal mensen op Sint Eustatius dat buiten Caribisch Nederland is geboren, nam toe met 64. Vooral het aantal inwoners dat geboren is op Sint Maarten is gegroeid. Het aantal inwoners dat geboren is op Curaçao en in de Verenigde Staten nam juist af.

Het aantal mensen op Saba dat buiten Caribisch Nederland is geboren, nam toe met 94. Met name het aantal mensen dat is geboren in Europees Nederland, op Sint Maarten en Suriname nam toe. Het aantal mensen dat is geboren op Curaçao nam wat af.

POPULATION OF THE CARIBBEAN NETHERLANDS UP BY NEARLY 1.6 THOUSAND IN 2024

On 1 January 2025, the population of the Caribbean Netherlands stood at nearly 32 thousand. That was an increase of 1,583 (5 percent) over the previous year.

The increase was largely due to population growth on Bonaire, mainly as a result of migration. On St Eustatius and Saba, the population also grew due to migration. Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports this on the basis of new figures.

On 1 January 2025, the population of Bonaire stood at 26,552, which was 1,419 more (6 percent) than one year previously.

That growth was mainly due to the fact that many more people came to live on the island than departed (1,220), and to a limited extent because of natural population growth (82, births minus deaths).

The number of people on Bonaire who were born outside the Caribbean Netherlands rose by more than 1,345. This was mainly due to more residents who were born in the European Netherlands, Colombia, Curaçao and the Dominican Republic.

Population of St Eustatius grew by 66

On 1 January 2025, St Eustatius had 3,270 inhabitants: a year-on-year decline of 66 (2 percent). That was mainly due to more people settling on the island than leaving. There was a limited rate of natural increase. The number of people on St Eustatius born

outside the Caribbean Netherlands rose by more than 64. The number of inhabitants born on St Maarten grew, in particular, while the number born on Curaçao and the US fell.

Saba’s population increased by 98

The population of Saba stood at 2,158 on 1 January 2025. That was an increase of 98 (5 percent) over the previous year. More people came to live on the island than departed (108), and the rate of natural increase was limited. The number of people on Saba born outside the Caribbean Netherlands rose by more than 94. In particular, the number of people born in the European Netherlands, St Maarten and Suriname increased. A decrease was mainly seen in residents born on Curaçao.
