NEDERLAND:

ZR.MS. GRONINGEN STATIONSSCHIP CARIBISCH GEBIED

Willemstad,- Zr.Ms. Groningen heeft de taak als stationsschip in het Caribisch gebied overgenomen van Zr.Ms. Friesland. Het patrouilleschip meerde vanochtend aan in de St. Annabaai in Willemstad.

Het schip wordt de komende maanden ingezet voor verschillende veiligheidstaken op zee, zoals toezicht, handhaving en het tegengaan van illegale activiteiten zoals drugssmokkel. Daarnaast staat het klaar om ondersteuning te bieden bij noodsituaties, bijvoorbeeld tijdens het orkaanseizoen dat deze maand is begonnen.

De Koninklijke Marine heeft 4 patrouilleschepen van de Holland-klasse. Deze OPV’s (Ocean-Going Patrol Vessels) zijn flexibel inzetbare schepen voor de bewaking van kustwateren. Het stationsschip heeft een NH90 maritieme gevechtshelikopter mee aan boord, om het schip te ondersteunen met operaties vanuit de lucht.De afgelopen vier maanden vervulde Zr.Ms. Friesland de taak van stationsschip in het Caribisch gebied. Naast het monitoren van de veiligheidssituatie rondom de eilanden bracht het schip recent een bezoek aan New Orleans, waar het deelnam aan festiviteiten ter gelegenheid van het 250-jarig bestaan van de Verenigde Staten.

Met de aanwezigheid van een stationsschip in de regio draagt defensie bij aan vrede en veiligheid in het Caribisch gebied.

HNLMS GRONINGEN STATION SHIP CARIBBEAN

Willemstad,- HNLMS Groningen has taken over the role of station ship in the Caribbean from HNLMS Friesland. The patrol ship docked in St. Anna Bay in Willemstad this morning.

Over the coming months, the ship will be deployed for various safety tasks at sea, such as surveillance, enforcement, and combating illegal activities like drug smuggling. Additionally, it stands ready to provide support during emergency situations, for example during the hurricane season that began this month.

The Royal Netherlands Navy has four Holland-class patrol ships. These OPVs (Ocean-Going Patrol Vessels) are flexibly deployable vessels for the surveillance of coastal waters. The station ship has an NH90 maritime combat helicopter on board to support the ship with aerial operations.

For the past four months, HNLMS Friesland fulfilled the role of station ship in the Caribbean. In addition to monitoring the security situation around the islands, the ship recently visited New Orleans, where it participated in festivities marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.

With the presence of a station ship in the region, Defense contributes to peace and security in the Caribbean.
