Willemstad,- Wij hebben een ware herder verloren—een man van onvergelijkbare diepgang en standvastige toewijding aan Christus.
Hij was een trouwe leerling die de vreugde van het Evangelie levend hield in de harten van de gelovigen, terwijl hij ons tegelijk opriep tot een diepere liefde: binnen het gezin, voor ons gemeenschappelijk huis, voor de armen en gemarginaliseerden, en voor elkaar over alle grenzen en verdeeldheid heen.
In een van de meest uitdagende en complexe perioden van de menselijke geschiedenis heeft Paus Franciscus ons getoond hoe we samen naar Christus kunnen wandelen. Hij maakte van de synodaliteit—samen wandelen in gemeenschap, participatie en zending—een wezenlijk kenmerk van de identiteit van de Kerk. Door zijn leven, zijn bediening en zijn moedige getuigenis riep hij de Kerk op steeds meer een veldhospitaal van barmhartigheid en een sacrament, een teken van hoop voor de wereld te zijn.
Wij danken God voor de gave van zijn pontificaat, voor zijn voorbeeld van nederigheid en kracht, en voor zijn onwankelbare toewijding aan het Evangelie van Jezus Christus.
Goed gedaan, trouwe dienaar.
Heer, geef hem de eeuwige rust, en laat het eeuwige licht over hem schijnen. Moge hij rusten in vrede. Amen.

He was a faithful disciple who kept the joy of the Gospel alive in the hearts of the faithful, even as he called us to a deeper love: within the family, for our common home, for the poor and marginalized, and for one another across every boundary and division.
In one of the most challenging and complex periods of human history, Pope Francis showed us how to walk together toward Christ. He made synodality—walking together in communion, participation, and mission—constitutive of the Church’s very identity. Through his life, his ministry, and his courageous witness, he called the Church to become ever more a field hospital of mercy and a sacrament, a sign of hope in the world.
We give thanks to God for the gift of his papacy, for his example of humility and strength, and for his unwavering devotion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Well done, good and faithful servant.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
As a Diocese, we will celebrate his life in a memorial liturgy, to be announced shortly. He always asked us to pray for him. Please, pray for him.

Willemstad,- Hemos perdido a un verdadero pastor: un hombre de incomparable profundidad y de compromiso inquebrantable con Cristo. Fue un discípulo fiel que mantuvo viva la alegría del
Evangelio en los corazones de los fieles, incluso mientras nos llamaba a un amor más profundo: en el seno de la familia, por nuestra casa común, por los pobres y marginados, y por los unos a los otros, más allá de toda frontera y división.
En uno de los períodos más desafiantes y complejos de la historia humana, el Papa Francisco nos enseñó a caminar juntos hacia Cristo. Hizo de la sinodalidad —caminar juntos en comunión, participación y misión— un elemento constitutivo de la identidad misma de la Iglesia.
A través de su vida, su ministerio y su valiente testimonio, llamó a la Iglesia a ser cada vez más un hospital de campaña de la misericordia y un sacramento, un signo de esperanza para el mundo.
Damos gracias a Dios por el don de su pontificado, por su ejemplo de humildad y fortaleza, y por su entrega constante al Evangelio de Jesucristo.
