Kralendijk,- De waarnemend Rijksvertegenwoordiger (wRv) roept op tot een grootschalige integrale aanpak nu hij genoodzaakt is zijn interbestuurlijk toezicht te beëindigen.

De Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport (ILT) heeft de voortgangsrapportage van het OLB van 31 januari beoordeeld. De wRv trekt mede op basis daarvan de conclusie dat het OLB de minimaal noodzakelijke juridische stappen heeft gezet waardoor actief toezicht door de wRv niet meer het middel is om deze situatie aan te pakken. Zonder juridische basis dient de wRv deze interventie te beëindigen.

In de praktijk en in de ogen van de inwoners van Bonaire is de noodsituatie bij Selibon Lagun nog lang niet opgelost. Er is geen begin van een (structurele) oplossing zichtbaar. Ook de ILT noemt de situatie onverminderd zorgwekkend en complex. De stand van zaken is hiermee nog urgenter geworden.

De wRv erkent dit. In een brief aan de Rijksoverheid en het OLB doet de wRv daarom de dringende oproep om tot een integrale aanpak te komen, die voor een doorbraak zorgt richting een duurzame oplossing bij Selibon Lagun.

Want dat is wat de inwoners van Bonaire verdienen. Deze aanpak moet in ieder geval zorgen voor een gerichte coördinatie, voldoende financiële middelen en effectief toezicht dat op het juiste niveau wordt belegd.

ACTING KINGDOM REPRESENTATIVE CALLS FOR INTEGRATED APPROACH TO SELIBON LAGUN

Kralendijk,- The Acting Kingdom Representative (wRv) is calling for a large-scale, integrated approach now that he has been forced to end his intergovernmental oversight.

The Living Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) has reviewed the progress report from the Public Entity Bonaire (OLB) dated January 31st.

Based on this, the wRv concludes that the OLB has taken the minimum necessary legal steps, meaning that active supervision by the wRv is no longer the means to address this situation. Without a legal basis, the wRv should end this intervention.

In practice, and in the eyes of the residents of Bonaire, the emergency situation at Selibon Lagun is far from resolved. There is no beginning of a (structural) solution visible. The ILT also still calls the situation worrying and complex. This has made the situation even more urgent.

The wRv acknowledges this. In a letter to the national government and the OLB, the wRv therefore urgently calls for an integrated approach that will lead to a breakthrough toward a sustainable solution at Selibon Lagun. Because that is what the residents of Bonaire deserve.

This approach must, at the very least, ensure targeted coordination, sufficient financial resources, and effective oversight at the appropriate level.
