NIEUWE COMMANDANTEN VOOR ARUBAANSE MILITAIREN EN CURAÇAOSE MILITAIREN

Willemstad/ Oranjestad,- Tijdens commando-overdrachten op zowel Aruba als Curaçao zijn twee nieuwe commandanten voor de ARUMIL en CURMIL officieel geïnstalleerd. Majoor Glenn Werleman is aangesteld als commandant van de Arubaanse eenheid (ARUMIL) en majoor Ryan Cabenda als commandant van de Curaçaose eenheid (CURMIL). Deze benoemingen markeren een belangrijke stap in de verdere professionalisering van beide eenheden.

Beide commandanten brengen een rijke militaire achtergrond mee en kennen de regio uitstekend. Majoor Werleman is al sinds 1997 verbonden aan de ARUMIL. Tijdens zijn loopbaan heeft hij diverse functies vervuld binnen de ARUMIL, de Kustwacht en het Korps Mariniers. Tot voor kort was hij werkzaam als adjudant van de gouverneur van Curaçao. Majoor Cabenda begon zijn carrière in 2004 bij de CURMIL (destijds nog bekend als ANTMIL). Hij heeft uitgebreide ervaring bij de Kustwacht opgebouwd en was van 2011 tot 2015 werkzaam als adjudant van de gouverneur van Curaçao.

Continuïteit en professionalisering
De overdracht van het commando vindt plaats op een belangrijk moment. Beide eenheden zijn momenteel volop in ontwikkeling. De focus ligt hierbij op het verhogen van de operationele standaard en het verder professionaliseren van de militairen. Met de komst van deze ervaren officieren wordt de basis gelegd voor een sterke toekomst.

Over de eenheden
De Arubaanse Militairen (ARUMIL) en de Curaçaose Militairen (CURMIL) zijn operationele lichte infanterie-eenheden. Zij staan onder bevel van de Commandant der Zeemacht in het Caribisch gebied (CZMCARIB). Hoewel de eenheden als ambtenaren bij de landen Aruba en Curaçao horen, zijn zij gedetacheerd bij CZMCARIB om bij te dragen aan de veiligheid in de regio.

Beide eenheden zijn volledig inzetbaar voor de drie hoofdtaken van Defensie in het Caribisch gebied, variërend van regionale veiligheid tot ondersteuning bij lokale incidenten.

Willemstad/ Oranjestad,- Two new Commanders for ARUMIL and CURMIL were officially installed during change-of-command ceremonies in Aruba and Curaçao. Major Glenn Werleman has been appointed Commander of the Aruban unit (ARUMIL), and Major Ryan Cabenda as Commander of the Curaçaoan unit (CURMIL). These appointments mark a significant step in the continued professionalization of both units.

Both Commanders bring extensive military experience and possess deep knowledge of the region. Major Werleman has been associated with ARUMIL since 1997. Throughout his career, he has held various positions within ARUMIL, the Coast Guard, and the Marine Corps. Until recently, he served as aide-de-camp to the Governor of Curaçao. Major Cabenda began his career in 2004 with CURMIL (then known as ANTMIL). He has gained extensive experience with the Coast Guard and served as aide-de-camp to the Governor of Curaçao from 2011 to 2015.

Continuity and professionalization
The transfer of command takes place at a pivotal moment. Both units are currently undergoing significant development. The focus is hereby on raising operational standards and further professionalizing the military personnel. With the arrival of these experienced officers the foundation is laid for a strong future.

About the units
The Aruban Military (ARUMIL) and Curaçaoan Military (CURMIL) are operational light infantry units. They operate under the command of the Commander of the Netherlands Naval Forces in the Caribbean (CZMCARIB). Although the personnel are civil servants employed by the countries of Aruba and Curaçao, they are seconded to CZMCARIB to contribute to regional security.

Both units are fully deployable for the three main tasks of the Armed Forces in the Caribbean Region, ranging from regional security to support during local incidents.
