SINT EUSTATIUS/SABA: FIREARM SURRENDER CAMPAIGN SINT EUSTATIUS & SABA

Oranjestad/ The bottom – The temporary firearm surrender campaign on Saba, organized by the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force (KPCN) and the Public Prosecutor’s Office BES, officially concluded on Sunday, May 24th.

During the campaign period, two firearms and ammunition were voluntarily surrendered.

KPCN and the Public Prosecutor’s Office BES would like to sincerely thank the community of Saba for their cooperation, openness and contribution to the safety of the island. Every firearm removed from the community contributes to reducing risks and strengthening public safety.

Following the conclusion of the campaign on Saba, the firearm surrender campaign on Sint Eustatius started the following day, Monday, May 25th, and will continue through Sunday, May 31st.

Residents of Sint Eustatius are still encouraged to make use of this temporary opportunity to voluntarily surrender firearms.

The campaign is part of a joint approach within the Caribbean part of the Kingdom aimed at reducing illegal firearm possession and increasing public safety.

After the surrender period ends, strict enforcement against illegal firearm possession will follow.

VUURWAPENINLEVERACTIE SINT EUSTATIUS & SABA

Oranjestad/The Bottom – De tijdelijke vuurwapeninleveractie op Saba, georganiseerd door het Korps Politie Caribisch Nederland (KPCN) en het Openbaar Ministerie BES, is op zondag 24 mei officieel afgerond.

Tijdens de actieperiode zijn twee vuurwapens en munitie vrijwillig ingeleverd.

KPCN en het Openbaar Ministerie BES willen de gemeenschap van Saba bedanken voor de medewerking, openheid en bijdrage aan de veiligheid van het eiland. Elk vuurwapen dat uit de samenleving wordt gehaald, draagt bij aan het verminderen van risico’s en het vergroten van de openbare veiligheid.

Na afloop van de actie op Saba is de vuurwapeninleveractie op Sint Eustatius direct de volgende dag, maandag 25 mei, van start gegaan. De actie loopt nog tot en met zondag 31 mei.

Inwoners van Sint Eustatius worden nog steeds aangemoedigd om gebruik te maken van deze tijdelijke mogelijkheid om vrijwillig vuurwapens in te leveren.

Deze actie maakt deel uit van een gezamenlijke aanpak binnen het Caribisch deel van het Koninkrijk om illegaal vuurwapenbezit terug te dringen en de openbare veiligheid te vergroten.

Na afloop van de inleverperiode zal streng worden gehandhaafd op illegaal vuurwapenbezit.
