WERKBEZOEK STAATSSECRETARIS INFRASTRUCTUUR EN WATERSTAAT ANNET BERTRAM AAN BONAIRE

Kralendijk,-Op 28 augustus aanstaande brengt staatssecretaris Annet Bertram van het ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat een werkbezoek aan Bonaire. Tijdens het bezoek staat de aanpak van de situatie op  de vuilstort Selibon Lagun en de gevolgen daarvan voor omwonenden en milieu centraal.

De staatssecretaris zal Selibon Lagun bezoeken. Ze zal ook in gesprek gaan met Stichting Pro Lagun (belangenbehartiger van de omwonenden) over de gevolgen van de problemen rond de vuilstort op hun dagelijks leven en het milieu.

De situatie op en rond de vuilstort Selibon Lagun is zeer zorgelijk. ⁠Zowel voor de gezondheid van de mensen op Bonaire, als het milieu. De afgelopen periode hebben het Openbaar Lichaam Bonaire  en Selibon al een aantal stappen gezet, mede in samenwerking met het Rijk. Dat neemt niet weg dat er meer maatregelen nodig zijn om te komen tot een structurele oplossing. Daarvan is het kabinet doordrongen en dat wil het kabinet ook aanpakken. Natuurlijk samen met het bestuurscollege en met Selibon zelf. De staatssecretaris zal gesprekken voeren met de gezaghebber, het bestuurscollege en Selibon over oplossingsrichtingen en de rol van de verschillende betrokken partijen zowel in Europees Nederland als op Bonaire.

Ook zal de staatssecretaris de symbolische start verzorgen van een meetnetwerk. Met specialistische meetapparatuur zal worden gemonitord wat de gevolgen zijn voor de omwonenden van de vuilstort en het milieu.

WORKING VISIT OF STATE SECRETARY FOR INFRASTRUCTURE AND WATER MANAGEMENT ANNET BERTRAM TO BONAIRE

Kralendijk,- On 28 August, State Secretary Annet Bertram of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management will make a working visit to Bonaire. The visit will focus on addressing the situation at the Selibon Lagun landfill and its consequences for nearby residents and the environment.

The State Secretary will visit Selibon Lagun. She will also meet with Stichting Pro Lagun, an organization representing the interest of neighbouring residents, to discuss the impact of the problems surrounding the landfill on their daily lives and the environment.

The situation at and around the Selibon Lagun landfill is very concerning, both for the health of people on Bonaire and for the environment. In recent months, the Public Entity of Bonaire and Selibon have already taken a number of steps, partly in cooperation with the Dutch government. Nevertheless, additional measures are needed to achieve a structural solution. The government is fully aware of this and is committed to addressing the issue, together with the Executive Council and Selibon itself. The State Secretary will hold discussions with the Island Governor, the Executive Council, and Selibon about possible solutions and the roles of the various parties involved, both in the Netherlands and on Bonaire.

Also, the State Secretary will symbolically launch a monitoring network. Specialized measuring equipment will be used to monitor the impact of the landfill on nearby residents and the environment.
