Kralendijk,- Obviously, the USA has no legal right to invade Venezuela. To do that, a UN Security Council resolution is required.
But the USA would not get such a resolution, because Russia would veto it. So, there is a circle here. Which only proves that the UN in its present form is dysfunctional.
All the present wars are a Prelude to UN Reform. All this talk about a Multipolar World is not essential. What good would it do, if in a Multipolar world there are 3 to 5 big countries who can violate international law with impunity? And bully their neighbors within their influence-sphere? As Russia is doing now in Ukraine? And as the USA is threatening to now do in Venezuela.
Perhaps the Island Council is now beginning to see that we had good reason to ask to take a stand and express support for Holland and Ukraine. We are NOT like a municipality in Holland. We are situated in the ‘Western Hemisphere’, where Venezuela was recently threatening its neighbor Guyana about oil. Just because it can, being way much stronger than Guyana.
And where now the USA is threatening Venezuela, certainly also about oil. And, again, just because it can. By the way, is it only about oil? No. About 8 million Venezuelans have left their country. There is a real problem in Venezuela. And Maduro’s regime is democratically not legitimate. Maduro did not win the last elections. Most Latin American countries have said so, but are not doing anything about it. And now that the USA is poised to do something about it, they hold their breath. Only to blame the USA later that it had no legal right to do so.
Duplicity all over.
Let’s be clear. The USA has no legal right to intervene in Venezuela. There is no UN Security Council resolution. And although we all know that the USA will not get such a resolution, that does NOT give them the right. Russia, also, did NOT have the right to invade Ukraine.
The world cannot continue this way. And Multipolarity is NOT going to solve this problem. Only UN-Reform can solve it. A disarmed world with a real democratic Security Council, WITHOUT any veto-rights and with a credible international Military Police Force, which could intervene in situations like in Venezuela.
But such a new Security Council is not yet. The present wars raging around the world now, are the necessary stick for the world to get its international act together. This UN Reform-process will NOT come quickly. It has to and will come, but it requires wars. Unfortunately, we (the world) have not yet learned how to solve such problems peacefully. We need a number of hideous systemic wars to get it done.
Hopefully, not in Venezuela. But war in Venezuela does seem likely now.
Maduro, please leave peacefully. You said you wanted Peace, not War. Then leave now. I do not like the fact that the USA is illegally threatening you. But there is a real problem in your country. And you know it. Everybody knows it. You are not a legitimate president. So, leave.
And what have you, our Island Council, got to do with all this? Well, this time, do what you prefer to do anyway, namely: ‘Do nothing! Keep your mouth shut, this time!’. This is way out of our league. Let a lonely ex-attorney do the talking. For if I talk, it matters not. But if you talk, you may cause serious problems which our islands cannot solve. And tomorrow, we have to deal with Venezuela again, our huge neighbor. We do not want war with Venezuela.
By the way, our islands will be just fine. We are always lucky. We were created lucky.
