WEB HEEFT KENNISGENOMEN VAN DE ZORGEN BINNEN DE BOERENGEMEENSCHAP OP BONAIRE

Kralendijk, – Water – en Energiebedrijf Bonaire (WEB) erkent de zorgen die leven binnen de boerengemeenschap van Bonaire en wil hierover transparant communiceren.

WEB heeft kennisgenomen van deze zorgen en benadrukt dat het drinkwater dat via watertrucks wordt geleverd in de eerste plaats bestemd is voor huishoudelijk gebruik.

Het distributiesysteem van water per truck is niet ontworpen om een continue capaciteit te garanderen voor industrieel gebruik of voor gespecialiseerde landbouw, zoals hydroponische teelt, waarbij sprake is van een hoge, constante en gevoelige vraag naar drinkwater.

Wij betreuren het dat er boeren zijn die niet de gewenste hoeveelheid water hebben ontvangen om hun kunuku te kunnen onderhouden, en wij begrijpen hun frustratie.

WEB heeft de verantwoordelijkheid om de continuïteit en beschikbaarheid van drinkwater op een gelijke manier voor alle kunukero’s te waarborgen.

WEB doet haar uiterste best om te voldoen aan het leveren van 3–6 kuub per kunuku die een aanvraag indient; indien beschikbaar kan er meer water worden geleverd.

WEB benadrukt het volgende:

• Momenteel zijn er 268 kunukero’s die buiten het reguliere drinkwaternet wonen en die een aanvraag indienen om water via trucks te ontvangen.

• WEB heeft een leveringscapaciteit van 79 kuub per dag, met in totaal drie trucks: één van 8 kuub en twee van telkens 6 kuub.

• WEB zorgt er steeds voor dat iedere kunukero minimaal 3 – 6 kuub ontvangt, volgens het wekelijkse schema waarmee de trucks van WEB rijden om te voldoen aan de behoeften van de kunuku’s.

Wanneer er onderhoud aan de trucks moet worden uitgevoerd of wanneer er zich moeilijkheden voordoen, doet WEB er alles aan om alle landbouwers van water te voorzien door minimaal 3 kuub te leveren, zodat zij over voldoende water beschikken voor hun werkzaamheden

• Het schema dat WEB gebruikt om water te verdelen onder alle 268 kunukero’s bestaat uit een combinatie van kunukero’s die wekelijks water ontvangen en kunukero’s die water afnemen wanneer zij dat nodig hebben.

• Voor grotere waterbehoeften is een ander systeem vereist. In dat geval kan de kunukero overwegen om een wateraansluiting via de leiding aan te leggen, die een continue levering garandeert en geschikt is voor industriële productie.

• De waterkwaliteit van WEB is hoog, wordt regelmatig gecontroleerd en voldoet aan zowel lokale als internationale normen voor drinkwater.

• WEB is voornemens om kunukero’s die nog geen aansluitpunt voor de waterslang op hun erf hebben, te benaderen om dit binnen een bepaalde periode te realiseren.

Dit is bedoeld om te garanderen dat WEB op elk moment bij de watertank kan komen om deze te vullen, zonder beperkingen of obstakels, en om een hygiënische levering aan alle klanten te waarborgen. De ontstane uitdagingen houden geen verband met de waterkwaliteit, maar met de distributiecapaciteit en logistieke beperkingen.

Deze vormen een reële uitdaging nu de buitengebieden in relatief korte tijd veel ontwikkeling kennen op het gebied van wonen, toerisme en industrie.

Om deze uitdaging aan te pakken, zal WEB in 2026 investeren in de uitbreiding van de leveringscapaciteit met twee trucks van telkens 8 kuub. Er is gekozen voor trucks van 8 kuub omdat deze beter manoeuvreerbaar zijn in de afgelegen kunukugebieden. WEB werkt samen met het OLB om structurele oplossingen te vinden voor de landbouwsector.

WEB HAS TAKEN NOTE OF THE CONCERNS WITHIN THE FARMING COMMUNITY ON BONAIRE

Kralendijk,- Water – en Energiebedrijf Bonaire (WEB) acknowledges the concerns within the farming community of Bonaire and aims to communicate transparently about them. WEB has taken note of these concerns and emphasizes that the drinking water delivered via water trucks is primarily intended for household use.

The water distribution system by truck is not designed to guarantee a continuous capacity for industrial use or for specialized agriculture, such as hydroponic cultivation, which requires a high, constant, and sensitive demand for drinking water.

We regret that there are farmers who have not received the desired amount of water needed to maintain their farm, and we understand their frustration.

WEB has the responsibility to ensure the continuity and availability of drinking water in an equal manner for all farmers.

WEB is doing its utmost to meet the delivery of 3–6 cubic meters per farm that submits a request; if available, more water can be supplied.

WEB emphasizes the following:

• Currently, there are 268 farmers living outside the regular drinking water network who submit requests to receive water via trucks.

• WEB has a delivery capacity of 79 cubic meters per day, with a total of three trucks: one with a capacity of 8 cubic meters and two with a capacity of 6 cubic meters each.

• WEB ensures that every farmer receives at least 3 – 6 cubic meters, according to the weekly schedule followed by the WEB trucks to meet the needs of the farms.

When maintenance needs to be carried out on the trucks or when difficulties arise, WEB does everything possible to supply all farmers with water by delivering a minimum of 3 cubic meters, ensuring that they have sufficient water for their activities

• The schedule used by WEB to distribute water among all 268 farmers consists of a combination of farms who receive weekly deliveries and those who request water as needed.

• For larger water demands, a different system is required. In such cases, the kunukero may consider installing a water connection via the pipeline network, which guarantees a continuous supply and is suitable for industrial production.

• WEB’s water quality is high, is regularly monitored, and meets both local and international drinking water standards. • WEB intends to contact kunukeros who do not yet have a connection point for the water connection on their property, in order to have this installed within a specified period. This is to ensure that WEB can access and fill the water tank at any time without restrictions or obstacles, and to guarantee a hygienic delivery for all customers.

The challenges that have arisen are not related to water quality, but to distribution capacity and logistical limitations. These present a real challenge, as the outlying areas have experienced significant development in housing, tourism, and industry within a relatively short period. To address this challenge,

WEB will invest in 2026 in expanding delivery capacity with two trucks of 8 cubic meters each. The choice for 8-cubic-meter trucks was made because they are easier to maneuver in the remote kunuku areas. WEB is working together with the OLB to find structural solutions for the agricultural sector.
