ENGELS :
BONAIRE’S SEA TURTLES IN THE DUTCH NEWS!
Kralendijk,- We’re very excited to share that Bonaire’s sea turtles and Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire (STCB) were put in the spotlight today.
The Dutch newspaper NRC put our team on their front page this morning. Please find the message we shared on our social media below:
- Dutch newspaper NRC has published an article featuring our very own field team, including Field Coordinator Daan, interns Kiki & Sam, volunteers Nicole & Jolanda and Board member Luc. We’re very excited to see that sea turtles and STCB are put in the spotlight: what an honor! An essential part of endangered species conservation is simply to help people to understand the species and their importance, not only to their habitat, but to our lives as well. Articles like these help us to inspire people on our island and abroad to care for Bonaire’s nature.
- NRC joined one of our nest monitoring patrols on Klein Bonaire and witnessed the confirmation and relocation of a nest. The nest, which contained 158 eggs, had to be relocated because of its proximity to the water. Leaving the nest in-situ could lead to the nest being washed away by the waves.
Would you like to read the article and learn more about what we do to protect sea turtles? You can find it here: https://www.nrc.nl/…/nest-voor-nest-waken… Photos: Flavio Maestroni.
