Oranjestad – Over the past three days, Sint Eustatius Community Officer Rexcarlos Courtar has been introducing himself to various partners across the island. Through these introductory visits, Courtar is taking the first steps toward building and strengthening cooperation with organizations and the community of Statia.
Courtar visited, among others, the Fire Department, the airport, schools, local businesses and other community partners. The visits provided an opportunity not only to get acquainted, but also to hear what is happening within the community and explore how the Community Officer can play a connecting role.
Meeting with Acting Island Governor
Courtar also had a constructive meeting with Acting Island Governor Sharon Hassell. During the meeting, he shared his plans and ambitions for his role as Community Officer and discussed what he hopes to achieve in the coming period.
Ms. Hassell, in turn, shared her perspectives and areas she considers important for the community. Together, they discussed opportunities for the Community Officer to contribute, including through increased visibility, accessible contact with residents and close cooperation between the police, local organizations and the community.
Visible and approachable in the community
In the coming period, Courtar will become increasingly visible in neighborhoods, at community activities and throughout Sint Eustatius. By being present in the community, he aims to get to know residents, listen to their concerns and experiences, and work together with partners to contribute to the safety and quality of life on the island.
Residents are encouraged to approach Courtar when they see him in the community. He can be contacted regarding non-emergency concerns, questions about safety in your neighborhood, or information that may contribute to keeping the community safe.
Meet your Community Officer this Friday
| The Caribbean Netherlands Police Force (KPCN) also invites the community to meet Courtar during a Meet & Greet on Friday, 2 October, from 17:30 to 19:30, in front of the Police Station. The evening is especially about hearing from the community. Residents are invited to share their concerns, experiences, ideas and what they feel is needed in their neighborhoods and the wider community. There will be music, finger food and drinks, providing an informal setting to meet the Community Officer, have a conversation and share what matters to you. |

WIJKAGENT REXCARLOS COURTAR MAAKT KENNIS MET PARTNERS OP SINT EUSTATIUS
Oranjestad – De wijkagent van Sint Eustatius, Rexcarlos Courtar, heeft zich de afgelopen drie dagen voorgesteld aan verschillende partners op het eiland. Met deze kennismakingsronde zet hij een belangrijke eerste stap in het opbouwen en versterken van de samenwerking met organisaties en inwoners op Statia.
Courtar bezocht onder meer de brandweer, de luchthaven, scholen, ondernemers en andere lokale partners. Tijdens deze ontmoetingen stond het kennismaken centraal, maar werd ook gesproken over wat er binnen de gemeenschap speelt en op welke manier de wijkagent hierin een verbindende rol kan vervullen.
Gesprek met waarnemend gezaghebber
Ook had Courtar een constructief gesprek met waarnemend gezaghebber mevrouw Sharon Hassell. Tijdens het gesprek lichtte hij zijn plannen en ambities als wijkagent van Sint Eustatius toe en sprak hij over wat hij de komende periode hoopt te bereiken.
Mevrouw Hassell deelde op haar beurt haar ideeën en aandachtspunten voor de gemeenschap en besprak met Courtar waar zij kansen ziet voor de wijkagent om bij te dragen. Daarbij werd onder andere stilgestaan bij het belang van zichtbaarheid, laagdrempelig contact met inwoners en een goede samenwerking tussen de politie, lokale organisaties en de gemeenschap.
Zichtbaar en benaderbaar in de gemeenschap
| De komende periode zal de wijkagent steeds vaker zichtbaar zijn in de verschillende buurten en bij activiteiten op Sint Eustatius. Het doel is om inwoners persoonlijk te leren kennen, signalen uit de gemeenschap op te vangen en samen met partners te werken aan de veiligheid en leefbaarheid op het eiland. Inwoners worden aangemoedigd om Courtar gerust aan te spreken wanneer zij hem tegenkomen. Bij niet-spoedeisende vragen, zorgen over de veiligheid in de buurt of informatie die kan bijdragen aan een veilige gemeenschap, kan contact worden opgenomen met de wijkagent. Uitnodiging aan de gemeenschap Het Korps Politie Caribisch Nederland (KPCN) nodigt de gemeenschap uit om Courtar in een informele setting te ontmoeten tijdens een Meet & Greet op vrijdag 2 oktober van 17:30 tot 19:30 uur, voor het politiebureau. Tijdens deze bijeenkomst staat vooral het luisteren naar de gemeenschap centraal. Inwoners zijn van harte welkom om hun zorgen, ervaringen, ideeën en behoeften te delen, of gewoon even langs te komen om kennis te maken. Er is muziek en er zijn hapjes en drankjes. De bijeenkomst biedt inwoners de gelegenheid om in een ontspannen sfeer met Courtar en andere aanwezige politiemedewerkers in gesprek te gaan. |
