KREEFTENSEIZOEN GESLOTEN TOT EN MET OKTOBER

Kralendijk – Van 1 mei tot en met 31 oktober is het bij wet verboden om kreeften te vangen in de wateren rondom Bonaire, Klein Bonaire en Lac.

De sluiting van de kreeft periode is ingesteld om kreeften te beschermen tijdens hun voortplantingsperiode. Kreeften planten zich voort in de zomer, wanneer de temperatuur van het zeewater hoger is.

Het vrouwtje kan tijdens het broedseizoen twee keer honderdduizenden eitjes produceren. Door de kreeften in deze periode met rust te laten, zorgen we ervoor dat ze zich met success kunnen voortplanten en dragen we dus bij aan een gezonde populatie voor de toekomst.

Daarom worden kreeften in deze periode gecategoriseerd als beschermde diersoort.

Wij vragen de gemeenschap vriendelijk om dit verbod te steunen en te respecteren door tijdens dit seizoen geen kreeften te vangen, kopen, serveren, verkopen of eten.

LOBSTER SEASON CLOSED UNTIL OCTOBER

Kralendijk – From May 1st through October 31st, it is prohibited by law to catch lobsters in the waters surrounding Bonaire, Klein Bonaire, and Lac.

This seasonal closing of the lobster period is in place to protect lobsters during their breeding period. Lobsters reproduce in the summer when the ocean temperatures are warm.

Female lobsters are capable of laying hundreds of thousands of eggs, twice during their reproductive season. By giving lobsters the chance to reproduce undisturbed, we help maintain a healthy and sustainable population for the future.

This is the reason why lobsters are categorized as protected species during this season.

We kindly ask the community to support and respect this law by not catching, buying, serving, selling, or eating lobster during this season.
