LANDMACHTCOMPAGNIE VAN DEFENSIE IN HET CARIBISCH GEBIED ROTEERT

 Willemstad – Tijdens een militaire ceremonie op vrijdagochtend 28 februari 2025 droeg compagnie rotatie 47 haar taken over aan de volgende eenheid, rotatie 48. De nieuwe commandant, luitenant-kolonel Kjell uit Schaarsbergen, nam tijdens een traditionele peddeloverdracht het commando over van zijn voorganger, majoor Jan.

 Na vier intensieve maanden in het Caribisch gebied kijkt majoor Jan met trots terug op de samenwerking en trainingen van de Delta “DJOKJA” compagnie. “Het was een unieke kans om met onze zware wapeneenheid in dit tropische klimaat te trainen en samen te werken met CZMCARIB en lokale partners. We hebben veel geleerd over het opereren in de uitdagende omstandigheden van het Caribisch gebied en de manier van aanpassen in een nieuwe omgeving.”

 Een hoogtepunt van deze periode was de oefening Caribbean DJOKJA. Tijdens deze oefening kwamen alle vaardigheden van de compagnie samen in de bijzondere omgeving van het Caribisch gebied. Het uitvoeren van manoeuvres over het hele eiland, de ondersteuning en integratie van technische innovaties, en de uitdagingen van het klimaat en terrein op Curaçao maakten het een zeer waardevolle ervaring. Majoor Jan benadrukte de waarde van samenwerking in de regio.

“Het is duidelijk dat wij onze taken niet alleen kunnen uitvoeren. De steun en samenwerking met de Curaçaose militairen en lokale veiligheidspartners zijn van onschatbare waarde. Ook de steun van de bevolking was van groot belang. Ik ben zeer dankbaar voor de ruimte die we kregen om onze trainingen uit te voeren. Het was bijzonder om te zien hoe we, ondanks verschillen in achtergrond en werkwijzen, gezamenlijk konden bijdragen aan veiligheid en stabiliteit.

Deze periode heeft niet alleen ons operationele vermogen versterkt, maar ook de banden met onze partners in het Caribisch gebied.”

 Luitenant-kolonel Kjell kijkt ernaar uit om de komende vier maanden met 11 Geniecompagnie te trainen en te werken in het Caribisch gebied. “De compagnie levert genie-gevechtssteun aan de Luchtmobiele Brigade. Dit doet zij in het belang van Nederland wereldwijd, onder alle omstandigheden, vanuit de lucht en op de grond. Binnen de Rode Baretten is de eenheid expert in terreinconditionering en gespecialiseerd in explosievenbestrijding en het gebruik van springstoffen. Normaal levert de compagnie één geniegroep per rotatie aan een infanteriecompagnie. Nu krijgt ze de mogelijkheid om als eenheid de taken in het Caribisch gebied uit te voeren.

Dit is voor de compagnie bijzonder en een unieke kans. In de eerste plaats omdat we unieke capaciteiten en middelen meebrengen die van grote waarde kunnen zijn als onze hulp of bijstand in de regio gevraagd wordt. In de tweede plaats is het voor ons een unieke kans om te kunnen trainen en experimenteren in het tropische klimaat van het Caribisch gebied. Ik verwacht dat we een bijzonder interessante periode tegemoet gaan en ik hoop dat we er samen met onze lokale partners een mooie en betekenisvolle tijd van kunnen maken.”

 De Koninklijke Landmacht heeft een permanente compagnie in het Caribisch gebied. Deze eenheid, onder bevel van CZMCARIB, kan worden ingezet voor een verscheidenheid aan taken. De komende vier maanden traint de compagnie op zowel Aruba, Bonaire als Curaçao.

DEFENSE ARMY COMPANY IN THE CARIBBEAN ROTATES

 A highlight of this period was the Caribbean DJOKJA exercise. During this exercise all the skills of the company came together in the special environment of the Caribbean. Carrying out maneuvers all over the island, the support and integration of technical innovations, and the challenges of Curaçao’s climate and terrain made it a very valuable experience. Major Jan emphasized the value of cooperation in the region. “It is clear that we cannot carry out our tasks alone. The support and cooperation with the Curaçao military and local security partners are invaluable. The support of the population was also of great importance. I am very grateful for the space we were given to carry out our training. It was special to see how, despite differences in background and working methods, we could jointly contribute to safety and stability. This period has not only strengthened our operational capabilities, but also the ties with our partners in the Caribbean.”

Lieutenant Colonel Kjell looks forward to training and working with 11 Engineer Company in the Caribbean over the next four months. “The company provides engineering combat support to the Air Mobile Brigade. It does this in the interests of the Netherlands worldwide, under all circumstances, from the air and on the ground. Within the Red Berets, the unit is an expert in terrain conditioning and specialized in explosives control and the use of explosives.

Normally the company provides one engineer group per rotation to an infantry company. Now she will have the opportunity to carry out tasks in the Caribbean as a unit. This is special and a unique opportunity for the company. Firstly, because we bring unique capabilities and resources that can be of great value if our help or assistance is requested in the region. Secondly, it is a unique opportunity for us to train and experiment in the tropical climate of the Caribbean.
