WINNAARS VAN DE BIG LIVE NATURE QUIZ – KIDS EDITION BEKENDGEMAAKT!

Kralendijk,- De Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance (DCNA) is verheugd de resultaten te delen van de 2024 Big Live Nature Quiz – Kids Edition, een succesvol evenement waarbij basisscholen en jonge natuurliefhebbers uit Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St. Eustatius en Sint Maarten samenkwamen om hun kennis over de natuur te vergroten door middel van leren en competitie

Meer dan 480 leerlingen van de zes Nederlands-Caribische eilanden namen deel aan de live online quiz. De quiz was ontworpen om te inspireren en te onderwijzen, met als thema “De Lokale Bewoners, Nieuwkomers en Indringers van de Natuur”. De deelnemers leerden over de unieke ecosystemen van het Nederlands Caribisch gebied en het belang van het beschermen van hun omgeving tegen invasieve soorten.

En de Winnaar is…

Het winnende team van de quiz van dit jaar is Dutch learners van Saba Sacred Heart op Saba! Met indrukwekkende kennis van inheemse, uitheemse en invasieve soorten versloegen ze hun concurrenten en behaalden de eerste plaats in de 2024 Big Live Nature Quiz. Als beloning voor hun uitzonderlijke prestatie zal het team een zeil- en snorkeltrip met hun leraar krijgen, waarbij ze de kans krijgen om het zeeleven rond hun eiland te verkennen en hun band met de natuur te verdiepen.

Elke eiland vierde ook zijn lokale kampioenen, waarbij hun inzet voor natuureducatie werd erkend. De lokale winnaars zijn:

• Bonaire: Yfke Kiara Ezrah Keke from Basisschool Aquamarin
• Curacao: de spiekende spinnen from Albert Schweitzerschool
• Saba: Dutch learners from Saba Sacred Heart

Deze teams, die uitmuntende kennis en teamwork toonden, ontvangen snorkelsets om hun liefde voor de oceaan en haar ecosystemen verder te stimuleren.

De DCNA feliciteert alle deelnemende teams van harte met hun enthousiasme, inzet en indrukwekkende kennis van de natuur! We kijken ernaar uit om deze jonge milieukampioenen verder te zien groeien en bijdragen aan de bescherming van de rijke biodiversiteit van het Caribisch Nederland.

Een Boeiende en Educatieve Ervaring voor Iedereen

De quiz bood kinderen een fantastische kans om op een leuke en interactieve manier met de natuur bezig te zijn. Met vragen gebaseerd op het BioNews Kids tijdschrift van de DCNA leerden de deelnemers over de diverse fauna van hun eilanden en de uitdagingen van invasieve soorten. Het tijdschrift, beschikbaar in meerdere talen zoals Engels, Nederlands, Papiamentu en Papiamento, hielp kinderen zich voor te bereiden op het evenement en zal een waardevolle educatieve bron blijven.

Een Samenwerkingsinspanning voor Natuureducatie

De Big Live Nature Quiz is een waar teamproject, tot stand gebracht door de samenwerking van de zes Nederlands-Caribische eilanden en DCNA’s natuurpartners: Aruba Conservation Foundation, CARMABI, STINAPA, Saba Conservation Foundation, St. Eustatius National Parks Foundation (STiNAPA), en the Nature Foundation Sint Maarten.. Met steun van lokale scholen, Dutch Caribbean TV, en financiële bijdragen van het Ministerie van Landbouw, Visserij, Voedselzekerheid en Natuur en de Nationale Postcode Loterij.heeft het evenement jonge geesten in de regio bereikt.

Kralendijk,- The Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance (DCNA) is thrilled to announce the results of the 2024 Big Live Nature Quiz – Kids Edition, a successful event where primary schools and young nature enthusiasts from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St. Eustatius, and St. Maarten came together to expand their knowledge of nature through learning and competition.

Over 480 students from across the six Dutch Caribbean islands participated in the live online quiz. Designed to inspire and educate, the quiz focused on the theme “Nature’s Locals, Newcomers, and Intruders,” teaching kids about the unique ecosystems of the Dutch Caribbean and the importance of protecting their environments from invasive species.

And the Winner Is…

The winning team of this year’s quiz is ”Dutch Learners” from Saba Sacred Heart on Saba! With impressive knowledge of native, non-native, and invasive species, they outshone their competitors to claim first place in the 2024 Big Live Nature Quiz. As a reward for their exceptional performance, the team will enjoy an exciting sailing and snorkeling trip with their teacher, giving them the chance to explore the marine life around their island and deepen their connection to nature.

Each island also celebrated its local champions, recognizing their commitment to nature education. The local winners are:

An Engaging and Educational Experience for All

The quiz provided a fantastic opportunity for children to engage with nature in a fun and interactive way. With questions based on DCNA’s BioNews Kids magazine, participants learned about the diverse wildlife of their islands and the challenges posed by invasive species. The magazine, available in multiple languages including English, Dutch, Papiamentu, and Papiamento, helped children prepare for the event and will continue to serve as a valuable educational resource.

A Collaborative Effort for Conservation Education

The Big Live Nature Quiz is a true team effort, brought to life through the collaboration of all six Dutch Caribbean islands and DCNA’s conservation partners: Aruba Conservation Foundation, CARMABI, STINAPA, Saba Conservation Foundation, St. Eustatius National Parks Foundation (STENAPA), and the Nature Foundation Sint Maarten. With support from local schools, Dutch Caribbean TV, and financial contributions from the the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature,  and the Dutch National Postcode Lottery, the event reached young minds across the region.
