PCN VERHOOGT PENSIOENEN EN DRAAIT KORTING UIT 2017 TERUG

Kralendijk – Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (PCN) heeft de pensioenen per 1 januari 2026 verhoogd.

De verhoging bestaat uit een indexatie van 3,2% vanwege gestegen kosten voor levensonderhoud én het volledig terugdraaien van de pensioenverlaging uit 2017

De pensioenverhoging bestaat uit twee afzonderlijke maatregelen: een indexatie van 3,2%, als tegemoetkoming voor de gestegen kosten voor levensonderhoud; het ongedaan maken van de korting van 3,5% die in 2017 werd doorgevoerd.

De indexatie van 3,2% is gebaseerd op het gewogen gemiddelde van de inflatie op Bonaire, Saba en Sint Eustatius. In 2017 was PCN genoodzaakt de pensioenen met 3,5% te verlagen. De aanleiding daarvoor was een te lage dekkingsgraad, die ontstond door strengere wettelijke eisen aan onder meer de levensverwachting en de rekenrente.

Deze aanpassingen waren bij de start van PCN in 2010 niet voorzien. Om de financiële positie van het fonds te versterken, ontving PCN destijds een extra bijdrage van 31 miljoen dollar van de Nederlandse Staat. Een van de voorwaarden voor deze bijdrage was dat de pensioenen tijdelijk werden verlaagd. Sterke financiële positie maakt herstel mogelijk Dankzij de sterke financiële positie van PCN per 31 december 2025 is het nu mogelijk gebleken om de verlaging uit 2017 volledig terug te draaien. Voorzitter Harald Linkels:

“Het is een belangrijke mijlpaal dat we de kortingen uit 2017 nu ongedaan kunnen maken. Destijds was er veel onrust op onze eilanden en wij hadden begrip voor het protest van deelnemers. Daarom zijn we heel blij dat we de pensioenen nu fors hebben kunnen verhogen.” Gepensioneerden hebben de verhoogde pensioenuitkering afgelopen maand ontvangen

PCN INCREASES PENSIONS AND REVERSES 2017 BENEFIT REDUCTION

Kralendijk – Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (PCN) has increased pensions as of 1 January 2026. The increase consists of a 3.2% indexation to compensate for higher living costs and the full reversal of the pension reduction implemented in 2017.

The pension increase consists of two separate measures: a 3.2% indexation as compensation for rising living costs; the reversal of the 3.5% reduction that was applied in 2017.

The 3.2% indexation is based on the weighted average inflation rate of Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius. In 2017, PCN was forced to reduce pensions by 3.5%. This decision was prompted by an insufficient funding ratio, resulting from stricter statutory requirements, including adjustments to life expectancy assumptions and the discount rate.

These changes were not foreseen when PCN was established in 2010. To strengthen the fund’s financial position, PCN received an additional contribution of USD 31 million from the Dutch State at that time.

One of the conditions attached to this contribution was a temporary reduction in pension benefits. Strong Financial Position Enables Restoration

Thanks to PCN’s strong financial position as of 31 December 2025, it has now become possible to fully reverse the pension reduction introduced in 2017.

Chairman Harald Linkels: “It is a very important milestone for us that we are now able to reverse the reductions from 2017. At the time, there was significant unrest on our islands, and we understood why participants protested against the pension cuts.
