OPENBARE LEZING DOOR WOUTER VEENENDAAL OVER DE GEVOLGEN VAN DE NEDERLANDSE TWEEDE KAMERVERKIEZINGEN VOOR DE KONINKRIJKSRELATIES

Kralendijk – Het Terramar Museum nodigt het publiek van harte uit voor een openbare lezing door Wouter Veenendaal, Bijzonder Hoogleraar Koninkrijksrelaties en Universitair Hoofddocent Vergelijkende Politicologie aan de Universiteit Leiden. 

Wouter Veenendaal doet wereldwijd onderzoek naar politiek en democratie in kleine (eiland)staten en gebieden. In het kader van de Leerstoel Koninkrijksrelaties bestudeert hij de aard en kwaliteit van democratische vertegenwoordiging op de zes Caribische eilanden binnen het Koninkrijk. Daarbij kijkt hij ook naar het democratische gehalte van de Koninkrijksrelaties.

Tijdens deze lezing bespreekt Wouter Veenendaal de gevolgen van de uitslag van de Nederlandse Tweede Kamerverkiezingen van 29 oktober 2025 voor de politieke verhoudingen binnen het Koninkrijk. De lezing plaatst de Koninkrijksrelaties eerst in historisch perspectief met aandacht voor de veranderende houding van Nederlandse burgers en politici ten opzichte van het Koninkrijk door de tijd heen.

Vervolgens bespreekt Veenendaal de resultaten van een recent opinieonderzoek dat hij gehouden heeft onder Europees-Nederlandse burgers en de partijprogramma’s van de verkiezingen van 29 oktober, inclusief mogelijke coalities en hun impact op de verhoudingen binnen het Koninkrijk. De lezing sluit af met een blik op hoe het veranderende politieke landschap van Nederland de positie van Bonaire, Caribisch Nederland en het Koninkrijk kan beïnvloeden.

PUBLIC LECTURE BY WOUTER VEENENDAAL ON THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE DUTCH PARLIAMENT ELECTIONS FOR KINGDOM RELATIONS

Kralendijk – The Terramar Museum warmly invites the public to a lecture by Wouter Veenendaal, Special Professor of Kingdom Relations and Associate Professor of Comparative Political Science at Leiden University.

Wouter Veenendaal conducts research worldwide on politics and democracy in small (island) states and territories. Within the framework of the Chair for Kingdom Relations, he studies the nature and quality of democratic representation on the six Caribbean islands within the Kingdom. In doing so, he also examines the democratic character of the Kingdom Relations.

During this lecture, Wouter Veenendaal will discuss the consequences of the outcome of the Dutch Parliament Elections of October 29, 2025, for political relations within the Kingdom. The lecture will first place the Kingdom Relations in a historical perspective, paying attention to the changing attitudes of Dutch citizens and politicians toward the Kingdom over time.

Veenendaal will then discuss the results of a recent opinion survey he conducted among European-Dutch citizens, as well as the party platforms from the October 29 elections, including possible coalitions and their impact on relations within the Kingdom. The lecture will conclude with a look at how the changing political landscape in the Netherlands could influence the position of Bonaire, the Caribbean Netherlands and the Kingdom as a whole.

The lecture will take place on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the Terramar Museum from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Participation is free of charge but registration is recommended due to limited capacity.
