5x 160 KILOMETER VOLBRACHT: JICN MEDEWERKERS TOPPRESTATIE!

Kralendijk,- Vijf medewerkers van de Justitiële Inrichting Caribisch Nederland (JICN) hebben van 15 tot en met 18 juli 2025 succesvol deelgenomen aan de wereldberoemde Nijmeegse Vierdaagse in Nederland.

Gedurende vier dagen liepen zij elk maar liefst 160 kilometer (4 keer 40 kilometer). Het is een indrukwekkende prestatie die laat zien hoeveel voorbereiding, doorzettingsvermogen en inzet ervoor nodig zijn.

Zinnia Fecunda, Ellery Soliana, Juraindel Sambo, Candrick Balochie en Roy Burleson hebben zich maandenlang intensief voorbereid op deze uitdaging. Al vanaf begin dit jaar trainden ze regelmatig samen en individueel op Bonaire. Dit betekende vroeg opstaan, wandelen en continu werken aan uithoudingsvermogen en mentale kracht.

Op maandag 21 juli zijn de vijf lopers feestelijk onthaald op Bonaire. Trotse collega’s en de directeur Peter Hengeveld stonden klaar om hen persoonlijk te feliciteren. Er was volop waardering voor hun doorzettingsvermogen en het feit dat zij als eerste groep namens JICN deze internationale uitdaging zijn aangegaan.

Hoewel het voor JICN de eerste officiële deelname is, zijn er op Bonaire al langer individuen die het vierdaagse pad bewandelen. Een inspirerend voorbeeld is Nazario Alberto, jarenlang werkzaam in de beveiliging bij verschillende RCN-locaties. Hij is voor velen op het eiland hét gezicht van de Nijmeegse Vierdaagse, die hij inmiddels al meer dan vijftien keer succesvol heeft uitgelopen. Zijn jarenlange inzet en zichtbaarheid maken hem tot een inspiratiebron voor velen, ook voor deze nieuwe generatie wandelaars.

Deze vijf medewerkers zijn echte pioniers binnen JICN, want hun deelname legt de basis voor toekomstige teams vanuit Caribisch Nederland. Het doel is om volgend jaar nog meer collega’s te enthousiasmeren om deze fysieke en mentale uitdaging aan te gaan.

De Nijmeegse Vierdaagse staat bekend als het grootste wandelevenement ter wereld en trekt jaarlijks duizenden deelnemers uit verschillende landen. Hoewel deelname openstaat voor iedereen, vereist het uitlopen van deze tocht een serieuze voorbereiding, conditie en vooral volharding.

Met deze geslaagde deelname heeft het JICN-team laten zien dat met de juiste voorbereiding en wilskracht ook grote uitdagingen binnen bereik liggen.

5X 160 KILOMETERS COMPLETED: JICN STAFF AN OUTSTANDING FEAT!

Kralendijk,- Five staff members from the Correctional Institution Caribbean Netherlands(JICN) successfully took part in the world-renowned Nijmegen Four Days Marches (Nijmeegse Vierdaagse) in the Netherlands from 15 July to 18 July 2025.

Over the course of four days, each participant walked an impressive total of 160 kilometers (4 x 40 km). It’s an impressive achievement that shows just how much preparation, determination and effort it takes.

Zinnia Fecunda, Ellery Soliana, Juraindel Sambo, Candrick Balochie, and Roy Burleson trained intensively for months in preparation for this challenge. Since the beginning of the year, they trained regularly, both individually and as a group, on Bonaire. This meant early mornings, long walks, and constant focus on building endurance and mental strength.

On Monday, 21 July, the five walkers received a festive welcome home on Bonaire. Proud colleagues and the direktor Peter Hengeveld were present to personally congratulate them. Their perseverance was widely applauded, as was the fact that they were the first group to represent JICN in taking on this international challenge.

Although this was JICN’s first official participation, Bonaire has long known individuals who have taken on the Four Days Marches. One inspiring example is Nazario Alberto, who worked for years in security at several RCN sites.

He is considered by many on the island to be the face of the Nijmegen Four Days Marches, having completed it successfully more than fifteen times. His dedication and visibility have made him a role model for many, including this new generation of walkers.

These five staff members are true pioneers within JICN. Their participation lays the foundation for future teams from the Caribbean Netherlands. The aim is to encourage even more colleagues to take on this physical and mental challenge next year.

The Nijmegen Four Days Marches is known as the largest walking event in the world and attracts thousands of participants from across the globe every year.

While the event is open to everyone, completing it requires serious training, good physical condition, and a great deal of determination.

With this achievement, the JICN team has shown that with the right preparation and determination, even the toughest challenges can be overcome.
