KINGS OF THE BARIO 2026 SLUIT OPNIEUW EEN BRUISENDE EDITIE AF IN HET HART VAN KRALENDIJK

Kralendijk,- De editie 2026 van Kings of the Bario werd zondag afgesloten op het Wilhelminaplein. Daarmee kwamen drie weekenden vol basketbal, competitie en samenzijn tot een passend einde in het hart van Kralendijk.

Kings of the Bario bleef een echt lokaal toernooi: alle deelnemers wonen op Bonaire en spelen hier basketbal. Tegelijkertijd weerspiegelden de spelers de diversiteit van het eiland, met roots in Bonaire, Curaçao, Nederland, Statia, Haïti, de Dominicaanse Republiek, Venezuela en China. Op het veld kwamen al die verschillende achtergronden samen in één gedeelde taal: basketbal.

Een onvoorspelbare finaledag

De finaledag liet opnieuw zien hoe onvoorspelbaar 3×3-basketbal kan zijn. Twee van de favorieten van het toernooi, Belnem Burikus en Great Wall, werden verrassend uitgeschakeld in de halve finales. Team Rose versloeg Belnem Burikus met 9–6, terwijl Bucket Island met een overtuigende 11–4 zege op Great Wall voor de tweede verrassing zorgde. Daarmee stond een finale op het programma die vooraf maar weinigen hadden verwacht.

In de finale maakte Team Rose een indrukwekkende reeks compleet door Bucket Island met 15–10 te verslaan en zich tot volwassenenkampioen van Kings of the Bario 2026 te kronen. Team Rose was de dag al in de kwartfinales begonnen en moest daardoor drie wedstrijden op rij winnen om de titel te pakken.

Kenroy Belleau werd uitgeroepen tot MVP nadat hij Team Rose op de finaledag naar alle drie de overwinningen leidde en een belangrijke rol speelde in de weg van de kwartfinale naar het kampioenschap.

In de U15-finale versloeg team Thunder ,Team Lightning in extra tijd en veroverde daarmee het U15-kampioenschap van 2026.

Een traditie opbouwen

Na het succes van de eerste editie betekende de terugkeer van Kings of the Bario in 2026 opnieuw een stap richting het uitbouwen van het toernooi tot een jaarlijkse traditie op Bonaire.

In de kern draait Kings of the Bario om basketbal zichtbaar te maken. Door het veld buiten de traditionele sporthal te brengen en op verschillende plekken op het eiland neer te zetten, krijgen spelers een podium en kan het publiek de sport van dichtbij beleven.

De Bonaire Basketball Federation spreekt haar oprechte dank uit aan INDEBON, het Openbaar Lichaam Bonaire (OLB),de pers, alle sponsors en brandingpartners, de deelnemende teams, scheidsrechters, vrijwilligers, coaches, ouders en iedereen die heeft bijgedragen aan het mogelijk maken van Kings of the Bario 2026.

Nu opnieuw een editie is afgerond, neemt BBF het opgebouwde momentum mee in haar verdere werk om kansen voor spelers op Bonaire te creëren en basketbal binnen verschillende leeftijdsgroepen verder te ontwikkelen.

Voor Kings of the Bario blijft de ambitie eenvoudig: blijven groeien, basketbal naar de mensen blijven brengen en in 2027 terugkeren voor een nieuwe editie.

KINGS OF THE BARIO 2026 CLOSES ANOTHER VIBRANT EDITION IN THE HEART OF KRALENDIJK

Kralendijk,- The 2026 edition of Kings of the Bario came to a close on Sunday at Wilhelmina Plein, bringing three weekends of basketball, competition and community together to a fitting finale in the heart of Kralendijk.

Kings of the Bario remained a truly local tournament, with all participating players living and playing basketball on Bonaire. At the same time, the players reflected the diversity of the island itself, with roots in Bonaire, Curaçao, the Netherlands, Statia, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and China. On the court, those different backgrounds came together through one shared language: basketball.

An Unpredictable Final Day

The final day once again showed just how unpredictable 3×3 basketball can be. Two of the tournament favorites, Belnem Burikus and Great Wall, were both surprisingly eliminated in the semifinals. Team Rose defeated Belnem Burikus 9–6, while Bucket Island produced an impressive 11–4 victory over Great Wall, setting up an unexpected championship matchup.

In the final, Team Rose completed a remarkable run by defeating Bucket Island 15–10 to become the 2026 Kings of the Bario adult champions. Team Rose had started the day in the quarterfinals, meaning they had to win three consecutive games to take home the title.

Kenroy Belleau was named MVP after leading Team Rose through all three victories on the final day, playing a key role in their run from the quarterfinals all the way to the championship.

In the U15 final, Team thunder defeated Team lightning  in overtime, to claim the 2026 U15 championship.

Building a Tradition

After the success of its first edition, the return of Kings of the Bario in 2026 marked another step toward establishing the tournament as a yearly tradition on Bonaire.

At its core, Kings of the Bario is about making basketball visible. Taking the court outside the traditional sports hall and placing it in different parts of the island gives players a stage while allowing people to experience the game up close.

The Bonaire Basketball Federation extends its sincere thanks to INDEBON, the Openbaar Lichaam Bonaire (OLB), the press, all sponsors and branding partners, the participating teams, referees, volunteers, coaches, parents and everyone who contributed to making Kings of the Bario 2026 possible.

With another edition completed, BBF will carry the momentum forward as it continues creating opportunities for Bonaire’s players and developing basketball across different age groups.

For Kings of the Bario, the ambition remains simple: keep growing, keep bringing basketball to the people, and return in 2027 for another edition.
