ZES CARIBISCHE EILANDEN VERTEGENWOORDIGD TIJDENS WORLDPRIDE AMSTERDAM 2026

Kralendijk,- Op initiatief van EQ Bonaire reist op 30 juli een delegatie van tien vertegenwoordigers uit zes Caribische eilanden naar Amsterdam om deel te nemen aan WorldPride 2026. De delegatie neemt deel aan een uitgebreid programma waarin ontmoeting, kennisdeling, mensenrechten en samenwerking centraal staan. Het overkoepelende thema van de delegatie is Unity – samen sterker door verbinding, wederzijds begrip en gezamenlijke inzet voor gelijke rechten.

Een van de hoogtepunten is de deelname aan de Canal Pride op 2 augustus en de Human Rights Conference op 5, 6 en 7 augustus. Daarnaast staan diverse werkbezoeken op het programma, waaronder ontmoetingen met het Ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap (OCW), de Nationaal Coördinator tegen Discriminatie en Racisme (NCDR) en COC Nederland.

Een bijzonder onderdeel van het programma is een inspirerende sessie met psychiater en therapeut Glenn Helberg, die spreekt over de invloed van kolonialisme op identiteit, inclusie en de positie van de queer gemeenschap binnen het Caribisch deel van het Koninkrijk.

De reis biedt de deelnemers de kans om kennis en ervaringen op te doen, maar ook om hun eigen verhalen te delen. Tijdens de verschillende bijeenkomsten vertellen zij over de uitdagingen waarmee de LGBTQIA+-gemeenschappen op de eilanden nog steeds te maken hebben, én over de belangrijke stappen die de afgelopen jaren zijn gezet op het gebied van zichtbaarheid, acceptatie en mensenrechten.

Met deze gezamenlijke deelname geven de zes Caribische eilanden invulling aan het thema Unity. Door ervaringen uit te wisselen, elkaar te versterken en gezamenlijk op te trekken, bouwen zij aan een toekomst waarin iedereen zichzelf kan zijn en gelijke kansen krijgt – ongeacht seksuele oriëntatie, genderidentiteit of achtergrond.

Deze versie legt meer nadruk op Unity als verbindend thema en maakt duidelijk dat de delegatie niet alleen komt om te leren, maar ook om de stem van de Caribische eilanden internationaal te laten horen.

SIX CARIBBEAN ISLANDS REPRESENTED AT WORLDPRIDE AMSTERDAM 2026

Kralendijk,- On the initiative of EQ Bonaire, a delegation of ten representatives from six Caribbean islands will travel to Amsterdam on July 30 to participate in WorldPride 2026. The delegation will take part in an extensive program focused on connection, knowledge sharing, human rights, and collaboration. The main theme is Unity – together we are stronger through mutual understanding, respect, and a shared commitment to equality.

One of the highlights of the visit is participation in the Canal Pride on August 2 and the Human Rights Conference on August 5, 6, and 7. In addition, there will be various visits and meetings with, among others, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), the National Coordinator against Discrimination and Racism (NCDR), and COC Netherlands.

A special part of the program is an inspiring session with psychiatrist and therapist Glenn Helberg, who will speak about the impact colonialism has had on identity, inclusion, and the position of the queer community in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The trip gives participants the opportunity to learn, gain inspiration, and share their own experiences. During the program, they will speak about the challenges that LGBTQIA+ communities on the different islands still face, but also about the important steps that have been taken to improve visibility, acceptance, and equal rights.

Through this joint participation, the six Caribbean islands give shape to the theme Unity. By learning from one another, strengthening relationships, and making their voices heard internationally, they continue working toward a future in which everyone can live as themselves
