WERKBEZOEK STAATSSECRETARIS ERIC VAN DER BURG AAN BENEDENWINDSE EILANDEN

Van 12 tot en met 17 oktober brengt staatssecretaris Eric van der Burg een werkbezoek aan de Benedenwindse eilanden Aruba, Bonaire en Curaçao.

Aruba
De heer Van der Burg start zijn werkbezoek op maandag 12 oktober op Aruba met een audiëntie bij gouverneur Alfonso Boekhoudt en voert bestuurlijke gesprekken met onder meer, minister-president Mike Eman en de minister van o.m. Koninkrijksrelaties Gerlien Croes. Vervolgens bezoekt de staatssecretaris het One of A Kind Café Aruba, een café van de stichting Trampolin pa Trabou waar personen met een afstand tot de arbeidsmarkt werkervaring opdoen. Bij de Marinierskazerne in Savonet krijgt hij informatie over het werk van de mariniers op Aruba en het Sociaal Vormingstraject voor jongeren. Dit traject is gericht op het vergroten van kansen van jongeren door fysieke training en het bijbrengen van structuur, normen en waarden. Aansluitend bezoekt de heer Van der Burg het voormalige terrein van de Lago raffinaderij om meer te horen over de herinrichtingsplannen voor de komende jaren. Staatssecretaris Van der Burg rondt de dag af bij het Korrectie Instituut Aruba (KIA) om inzicht te krijgen in de huidige omstandigheden, uitdagingen en successen binnen het KIA.

Dinsdag 13 oktober start de heer Van der Burg bij de Aeropuerto Internacional Reina Beatrix, waar hij geïnformeerd wordt over de werkzaamheden op de luchthaven in het kader van het project ‘versterking grenstoezicht’. Aansluitend vliegt hij door naar Bonaire.

Bonaire

Na aankomst op Bonaire staat de dag in het teken van bestuurlijke gesprekken met onder meer gezaghebber John Soliano en het Bestuurscollege. De gesprekken staan o.m. in het teken van de politiek bestuurlijke situatie en de voortgang van de afspraken in het bestuursakkoord. Met de directie van Selibon Lagún spreekt hij over de actuele situatie en de bedrijfsvoering. Ook de uitvoering van de Bestuursovereenkomst Aanpak Selibon Lagún komt daarbij aan de orde. Daarnaast voert hij met Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association en Tourism Corporation Bonaire, gesprekken over de ontwikkeling van het toerisme op Bonaire.

Op woensdagochtend 14 oktober is de staatssecretaris bij de Rijksdienst Caribisch Nederland (RCN). Daar is onder andere aandacht voor de thema’s dienstverlening, digitalisering en slagvaardige overheid. De heer Van der Burg bezoekt verschillende onderdelen van RCN en gaat in gesprek met medewerkers van RCN. De rest van de dag staat in het teken van een bezoek aan douane en haven. Staatssecretaris Van der Burg rondt het bezoek aan Bonaire af met een gesprek bij de Kamer van Koophandel om te praten over het ondernemingsklimaat op Bonaire.

Curaçao

Na aankomst op Curaçao op donderdag 15 oktober heeft de staatssecretaris een audiëntie bij gouverneur Mauritsz de Kort en voert hij bestuurlijke gesprekken met o.m. premier Pisas en de ministerraad van Curaçao. Op Curaçao wordt de staatssecretaris verder bijgepraat over diverse onderwerpen waaronder veilige grenzen en wijkontwikkeling. Op de laatste dag van het werkbezoek, vrijdag 16 oktober, spreekt de staatssecretaris met de president van het Gemeenschappelijke Hof van Justitie en de secretaris van het College Financieel Toezicht. Ook is hij aanwezig bij de vaardag van de marine. Dit is een speciale vaartocht die de Koninklijke Marine en andere krijgsmachtonderdelen organiseren voor genodigden, ketenpartners en andere belanghebbenden.

WORKING VISIT STATE SECRETARY ERIC VAN DER BURG TO LEEWARD ISLANDS

From 12 up to and including 17 October, State Secretary Eric van der Burg is paying a working visit to the Leeward Islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao.

Aruba
Mr Van der Burg will start his working visit on Aruba on Monday 12 October with an audience with Governor Alfonso Boekhoudt and will hold administrative talks with, among others, Prime Minister Mike Eman and the Minister of, among other things, Kingdom Relations Gerlien Croes. The State Secretary will then visit the One of A Kind Café Aruba, a cafe of the Trampolin pa Trabou foundation where people who are disadvantaged in the labour market gain work experience. At the Marine Barracks in Savonet, he will receive information about the work of the marines on Aruba and the Social Development Programme for young people. This programme focuses on enhancing opportunities for young people through physical training and instilling structure, standards and values. Next, Mr Van der Burg will visit the former premises of the Lago refinery to hear more about the restructuring plans for the coming years. State Secretary Van der Burg will conclude the day at the Correctional Institute Aruba (CIA) to gain insight into the current circumstances, challenges and successes within the CIA.
On Tuesday 13 October, mr Van der Burg will start at the Queen Beatrix International Airport where he will be informed of the activities at the airport in the context of the “strengthening border control” project. He will then fly on to Bonaire.

Bonaire

After arrival on Bonaire, the day will be devoted to administrative meetings with, among others, Island Governor John Soliano and the Executive Council. The meetings focus on, among other things, the political administrative situation and the progress on the arrangements set out in the administrative agreement. He will discuss the current situation and the business operations with the board of Selibon Lagún. In this regard, the implementation of the Administrative Agreement regarding the Selibon Lagún Action Plan will also be discussed. In addition, he will hold talks with the Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association and Tourism Corporation Bonaire, about the development of tourism on Bonaire.

On Wednesday morning 14 October, the State Secretary will be visiting the Rijksdienst Caribisch Nederland (RCN). Attention will be paid to, among other things, the themes services, digitalisation and effective government. Mr Van der Burg will visit various units of RCN and will speak with employees of RCN. The rest of the day will centre on a visit to customs and the port. State Secretary Van der Burg will conclude the visit to Bonaire with a meeting at the Chamber of Commerce to talk about the entrepreneurial climate on Bonaire.

Curaçao

After arrival on Curaçao on Thursday 15 October, the State Secretary will have an audience with Governor Mauritsz de Kort and will hold administrative talks with, among others, Prime Minister Pisas and the Council of Ministers of Curaçao. On Curaçao, the State Secretary will be updated on various topics, including secure borders and district development.
On the last day of the working visit, Friday 16 October, the State Secretary will speak with the President of the Joint Court of Justice and the secretary of the Board of Financial Supervision. He will also attend the sailing day of the Navy. This is a special trip organised by the Royal Netherlands Navy and other branches of the armed forces for invitees, chain partners and other stakeholders.
