KABINET SPECIAAL GEZANT FACILITEERT EDUCATIEF PROGRAMMA OM LEERLINGEN OP BONAIRE KENNIS TE LATEN MAKEN MET DE RUIMTEVAART

Kralendijk,- Eind februari coördineerde het Kabinet Gezant een educatief programma om leerlingen op Bonaire op een laagdrempelige manier kennis te laten maken met ruimtevaart en bètavakken.

In de week van 24 tot en met 28 februari hebben groep 8-leerlingen van verschillende basisscholen en VWO 4 leerlingen van het Liseo een speciaal lesprogramma mogen volgen, gericht op ruimtevaart en bètavakken.

Het programma was een samenwerking tussen het Kabinet van de Speciaal Gezant, SGB Liseo, Sterk Techniek Onderwijs (STO) en het Da Vinci Sattelite-team (DVS-team) van de TU Delft. Laatstgenoemden hebben het programma zowel voorbereid als gepresenteerd.

Het programma bestond uit verschillende onderdelen; kennisuitwisseling tijdens lessen en presentaties, een bezoek aan het Galileo-grondstation en speciaal voor docenten een train de trainer workshop, waardoor zij de opgedane kennis ook aan toekomstige leerlingen kunnen overbrengen.

Het lesmateriaal werd speciaal voor dit programma ontwikkeld, met het doel dit vakgebied voor de jeugd op Bonaire, Sint Eustatius en Saba toegankelijker te maken. Ook docenten van Sint Eustatius en Saba waren overgekomen om deel te nemen aan de Train-de-Trainer workshop. Daarnaast liet het programma zien hoe ruimtevaart bijdraagt aan technologische vooruitgang, duurzaamheid en innovatie in het dagelijks leven.

Het bezoek aan het Galileo-grondstation was voor veel leerlingen de highlight van de week. Hier kregen de leerlingen een rondleiding op het terrein en door verschillende presentaties bij te wonen, kregen ze inzicht in hoe het station werkt.

CABINET SPECIAL ENVOY FACILITATES EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS IN BONAIRE TO SPACE EXPLORATION

Kralendijk,- At the end of February, the Cabinet of the Special Envoy coordinated an educational program to introduce students in Bonaire to space exploration and STEM subjects in an accessible way.

From February 24th to 28th, group 8 students from various primary schools and VWO 4 students from the Liseo participated in a special curriculum focused on space exploration and STEM subjects. The program was a collaboration between the Cabinet of the Special Envoy, SGB Liseo, Strong Technical Education (STO), and the Da Vinci Satellite Team (DVS-team) from TU Delft. The latter developed and presented the program.

The program consisted of various components, including knowledge exchange through lessons and presentations, a visit to the Galileo ground station, and a “train the trainer” workshop specifically for teachers, enabling them to pass on the knowledge they gained to future students.

The educational materials were specially developed for this program, with the goal of making this field more accessible to the youth of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba. Teachers from St. Eustatius and Saba also traveled to Bonaire to participate in the Train-the-Trainer workshop. Additionally, the program demonstrated how space exploration contributes to technological advancement, sustainability, and innovation in everyday life.

The visit to the Galileo ground station was the highlight of the week for many students. There, students received a tour of the site and, by attending various presentations, gained insight into how the station operates.
