JICN-WINKEL TOKO LENY: EEN BELANGRIJKE STAP NAAR REHABILITATIE EN MEDEWERKERSBEHOUD

Vandaag heeft Wibo de Vries, directeur van de Justitiële Inrichting Caribisch Nederland (JICN), de interne winkel ‘Toko Leny’ officieel geopend. Dit project is geïnitieerd door Karel Martis, die met zijn inzet de realisatie van deze winkel mogelijk heeft gemaakt.

‘Toko Leny’ biedt gedetineerden niet alleen de mogelijkheid om essentiële producten te kopen, maar ook om actief bij te dragen aan het dagelijkse werk in de winkel. Ze helpen met taken zoals het verpakken van goederen, het vullen van rekken en het beheren van de voorraad. Het kassawerk blijft voorbehouden aan het winkelpersoneel.

Naast de focus op gedetineerden speelt de winkel op initiatief van directeur Wibo de Vries ook een belangrijke rol in het behoud van ervaren medewerkers. De winkel biedt ook werkplekken aan oudere medewerkers die niet volledig meer kunnen meekomen in het reguliere werk. Deze ‘luwteplekken’ geven hen de kans om hun carrière op een waardige manier voort te zetten.

Op dit moment zijn er drie kwartiermakers actief om de winkel operationeel te maken. Als alles soepel draait, worden vacatures uitgezet om de werkplekken verder in te vullen.

‘Toko Leny’ heeft een belangrijke educatieve en rehabiliterende functie. Gedetineerden leren verantwoordelijkheid nemen, plannen en werken binnen duidelijke regels. Dit bereidt hen voor op een succesvolle terugkeer in de samenleving.

Om de winkel veilig en respectvol te houden, gelden strikte regels. Artikelen zoals bedwelmende middelen, ontuchtige, opruiende en godslasterlijke producten zijn verboden.

Met de opening van ‘Toko Leny’ zet de JICN een belangrijke stap. Dankzij de inzet van Karel Martis en het initiatief van directeur Wibo de Vries biedt de winkel kansen aan zowel gedetineerden als medewerkers. Het project laat zien hoe rehabilitatie en medewerkersbehoud hand in hand kunnen gaan.

JICN STORE TOKO LENY: AN IMPORTANT STEP TOWARDS REHABILITATION AND EMPLOYEE RETENTION

Today, Wibo de Vries, director of the Caribbean Netherlands Correctional Institution (JICN), officially opened the internal store ‘Toko Leny’. This project was initiated by Karel Martis, whose dedication made the realisation of this store possible.

‘Toko Leny’ not only offers prisoners the opportunity to buy essential products, but also to actively contribute to the daily work in the store. They help with tasks such as packaging goods, filling shelves and managing stock. However, the cash register work remains reserved for the store staff.

In addition to the focus on prisoners, the store also plays an important role in retaining experienced employees, at the initiative of director Wibo de Vries. The store also offers workplaces to older employees who can no longer fully participate in regular work. These ‘sheltered places’ give them the opportunity to continue their careers in a dignified manner.

At the moment, three quartermasters are active to make the shop operational. If everything runs smoothly, vacancies will be advertised to fill the workplaces. ‘

Toko Lenny’ has an important educational and rehabilitative function. Prisoners learn to take responsibility, plan and work within clear rules. This prepares them for a successful return to society.

To keep the shop safe and respectful, strict rules apply. Items such as intoxicants, indecent, inflammatory and blasphemous products are prohibited.

With the opening of ‘Toko Leny’, the JICN is taking an important step. Thanks to the efforts of Karel Martis and the initiative of director Wibo de Vries, the shop offers opportunities to both prisoners and employees. The project shows how rehabilitation and employee retention can go hand in hand.
