STINAPA TACKLES SPEARFISHERMAN AND REFERS THE CASE TO THE PUBLIC PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE

Kralendijk – Rangers from STINAPA, who are special police officers, have filed a report against a spearfisherman at Pink Beach.

On Sunday, January 4, 2026, the fisherman was fishing with a harpoon in the sea, despite the ban. The police tipped off STINAPA at 12:50 p.m. on Sunday after receiving a report from people at the bay. The rangers and the Coast Guard then went to Pink Beach with their own boat.

After the rangers and the Coast Guard arrived at the bay, the fisherman came ashore with the harpoon in his hand. The fisherman had also caught a number of fish, which were immediately confiscated by the rangers. It is illegal to possess a harpoon and also illegal to fish with one.

The rangers drew up a report and the case was then handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office will determine the amount of the fine for the fisherman. If the fish are protected species, the fine will be higher. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has informed STINAPA where the confiscated fish should be taken. The harpoon will be destroyed by STINAPA as soon as possible.
