MARINE ONDERSCHEPT 3 DRUGSTRANSPORTEN IN EEN WEEK

Willemstad,- Het Nederlandse marineschip Zr.Ms. Groningen heeft in het Caribisch gebied binnen een week tijd 3 drugstransporten onderschept.
Hiermee is in totaal 1.653 kilogram aan verdovende middelen van de straat gehouden.

De onderscheppingen dateren van 4, 5 en 9 april, maar zijn nu bekendgemaakt.
Bij de eerste actie op 4 april, nam een patrouillevliegtuig van de Kustwacht Caribisch Gebied een verdacht vaartuig waar. Daarop zijn direct de NH90-boordhelikopter en 2 snelle onderscheppingsboten (Frisc’s) van Zr.Ms. Groningen ingezet.

Het leidde tot een vluchtpoging waarbij pakketten overboord zijn gegooid. Stopseinen en waarschuwingsschoten werden genegeerd. Vanuit de NH90 zijn daarop de buitenboordmotoren van de go-fast kapotgeschoten.
Het team van de Amerikaanse Coast Guard en het Korps Mariniers onderschepte vervolgens 921 kilo marihuana.

Tweede en derde vangst
Nog geen 24 uur later werd tijdens een patrouille opnieuw een snelle smokkelboot gespot. Ook hier kwam het aan op gedwongen stop van het vaartuig. Bij deze onderschepping is 342 kilo cocaïne in beslag genomen.
Bij een soortgelijke actie op 9 april zijn 145 kilogram marihuana en 245 kilogram cocaïne in beslag genomen. Alle illegale waar is overgedragen aan de Amerikaanse kustwacht.

Stationsschip
Zr.Ms. Groningen is sinds eind januari het stationsschip in het Caribisch gebied. Het uitvoeren van counterdrugsoperaties is een van de taken. Hierbij werkt het marineschip afwisselend samen met de Amerikaanse kustwacht en de Kustwacht Caribisch Gebied.

Inmiddels heeft Zr.Ms. Groningen bij 6 drugstransporten ruim 5.000 kilogram contrabande onderschept.

NAVY INTERCEPTS 3 DRUG SHIPMENTS IN ONE WEEK

Willemstad,- The Dutch Navy Ship HNLMS Groningen intercepted 3 drug shipments in the Caribbean Region, within a week. This kept a total of 1,653 kilograms of narcotics off the streets.

The interceptions date from 4, 5 and 9 April, but have now been announced.During the first action on April 4, a patrol aircraft of the Caribbean Coast Guard spotted a suspicious vessel. The NH90 helicopter and 2 fast interceptor boats (Frisc’s) of HNLMS. Groningen were immediately deployed.
It led to an attempted escape during which packages were thrown overboard. Stop signals and warning shots were ignore. The outboard engines of the go-fast were then shot to pieces from the NH90.

The team of the American Coast Guard and the Marine Corps then intercepted 921 kilos of marijuana.

Second and third catch
Less than 24 hours later, another fast smuggling boat was spotted during a patrol. In this case as well, a forced interdiction of the vessel was required. During this interception, 342 kilos of cocaine were seized.
During a similar operation on April 9, 145 kilograms of marijuana and 245 kilograms of cocaine were seized. All illegal goods were handed over to the American Coast Guard.

Stationship
