SABA: VOORTGANG ONDERZOEK IN DE MOORDZAAK OP SABA

The Bottom,- De twee aangehouden verdachten in de Sabaanse moordzaak blijven 60 dagen langer in voorarrest.

Dit heeft de Rechter Commissaris geoordeeld op 7 oktober 2025 tijdens een besloten raadkamerzitting. Hoewel het politieonderzoek naar de moord van 12 september jl. op de Upper Mountain Road nog altijd gaande is, is er volgens de onderzoeksrechter voldoende verdenking om beide verdachten langer in voorlopige hechtenis te houden.

Op 4 december 2025 zal er een eerste openbare zitting plaatsvinden bij het Gerecht in Eerste aanleg op Bonaire. Op deze zittingsdag zal de moordzaak nog niet inhoudelijk worden behandeld door de rechter, omdat ook dan naar verwachting het politieonderzoek nog niet zal zijn afgerond.

De officier van justitie zal tijdens deze zogenaamde pro forma zitting onder meer toelichten wat de stand van zaken in het politieonderzoek is.

Ook zal de rechter dan opnieuw toetsen of de verdachten langer in voorarrest blijven. In samenspraak met het Gerecht in Eerste Aanleg zal er in het Gerechtsgebouw op Saba een live videoverbinding worden gerealiseerd zodat onder meer nabestaanden, familie, vrienden en andere belangstellenden de zitting van 4 december 2025 daar kunnen volgen.

De behandeling van de zaak staat gepland om 10.00 uur en duurt naar verwachting een uur.

SABA: PROGRESS IN THE SABA MURDER INVESTIGATION

The Bottom,- The two suspects arrested in connection with the Saba murder case will remain in pre-trial detention for an additional 60 days.

This decision was made by the examining judge on 7 October 2025 during a closed chamber session. Although the police investigation into the murder, which took place on 12 September on Upper Mountain Road, is still ongoing, the examining judge ruled that there remains sufficient suspicion to keep both suspects in custody.

On 4 December 2025, a first public hearing will take place at the Court of First Instance on Bonaire. During this hearing, the case will not yet be substantively addressed by the court, as the police investigation is expected to still be in progress at that time.

During this so-called pro forma hearing, the public prosecutor will provide an update on the status of the investigation. The judge will also review whether the suspects should remain in pre[1]trial detention.

In consultation with the Court of First Instance, a live video connection will be set up at the Courthouse on Saba, allowing relatives, family, friends, and other interested persons to follow the hearing of 4 December 2025 from there.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to last approximately one hour.
