BSSA SUNFISH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025

Kralendijk,- The Bonaire Sunfish Sailing Association (BSSA) is pleased to announce the commencement of promotional initiatives in support of BSSA Sunfish Team Bonaire as they prepare for participation in the Sunfish World Championships held in Ecuador from December 4th to 13th, 2025.

In week 1 of the World Championships the Juniors, Women and Master will compete for the World titles. In week 2 the Open category participants will race for the World Championship. 85 Sunfishes will be on the start line. Bonaire is well represented with a team of seven sailors.

On Saturday, August 16th, members of the BSSA Sunfish Team Bonaire were officially introduced, each wearing their championship team shirts during an afternoon of training exercises in the bay of Kralendijk. The light wind conditions provided an ideal simulation of those anticipated in Ecuador. This year’s team comprises Ton Nuijten, Hans de Waard, George Soliano, Ramon “Yellowman” Martis, Gilbert Martis, Dedrie Pedersen, and Paxiënrocque Martis.

Team sponsors and representatives from the press observed segments of the afternoon sailing training including practice starts and short course races. Following the session, team members gathered at Kas di Regatta for group photographs and a celebratory toast to express their gratitude and appreciation.

OLB Indebon provides substantial financial support by subsidizing a significant portion of the expenses.

In the coming weeks and months, select team members will participate in both the Curacao Championships and the Bonaire Regatta as part of their ongoing preparation to represent Bonaire and achieve excellence in competition.

The next fundraising event for the team will be a BBQ afternoon with live music by the Silver Bullets on Sunday, August 31st, at Kas di Regatta, celebrating the sailing club’s 30th anniversary. Advance tickets are available for $20. Community members are encouraged to support the team by contacting the club for ticket arrangements.
