ZR.MS. FRIESLAND ONDERSCHEPT RUIM 300 KILO COCAÏNE

Willemstad,-  Zr.Ms. Friesland heeft wéér een partij drugs in het Caribisch gebied onderschept. Dit keer ging het om 318 kilo cocaïne, tijdens een actie op 18 augustus.

Dat is vandaag bekendgemaakt. Het is ondertussen al de 8e keer dat het schip beet heeft.

 Het stationsschip Zr.Ms. Friesland zag op de bewuste avond in de Caribische Zee een verdacht vaartuig. Het was een zogenoemde go-fast, een snelle boot die vaak wordt ingezet voor drugssmokkel. Zodra dat duidelijk was, werden beide onderscheppingsboten (Frisc’s) van de Friesland ingezet om de boot te benaderen.

 Overboord
Er ontstond een achtervolging, waarbij de smokkelaars pakketten overboord gooiden. De achtervolging werd gestaakt en de Frisc-bemanning kon daarna 318 kilo cocaïne opvissen. De drugs zijn zoals gebruikelijk voor vernietiging overgedragen aan de Amerikaanse kustwacht.

Bestrijding
Zr.Ms. Friesland is sinds mei actief in de regio. Bestrijding van drugstransporten op zee is een van de taken van Defensie in het Caribisch gebied. Het stationsschip werkt daarbij afwisselend samen met de Kustwacht Caribisch Gebied en de Amerikaanse kustwacht.

HNLMS FRIESLAND INTERCEPTS OVER 300 KILOS OF COCAINE

Willemstad,-  HNLMS Friesland has intercepted another drug shipment in the Caribbean. This time, it involved 318 kilos of cocaine during an operation on August 18th.

The announcement was made today. This is already the eighth time the ship has intercepted drugs.

 On that evening, the station ship HNLMS Friesland spotted a suspicious vessel in the Caribbean Sea. It was a so-called go-fast, a fast boat often used for drug smuggling. As soon as this was clear, both rapid interception vessels (Friscs) from the Friesland were deployed to approach the boat.

 Overboard

A chase ensued, during which the smugglers threw packages overboard. The chase was called off, and the Frisc crew was subsequently able to recover 318 kilos of cocaine. The drugs were handed over to the US Coast Guard for destruction, as is customary.

 Combating

HNLMS Friesland has been active in the region since May. Combating drug trafficking at sea is one of the Ministry of Defence’s responsibilities in the Caribbean. The station ship works alternately with the Caribbean Coast Guard and the US Coast Guard.
