SABA/SINT EUSTATIUS: KPCN KIJKT TERUG OP EEN VEILIGE EN SUCCESVOLLE CARNAVALSPERIODE

The Bottom/Oranjestad,- Het Korps Politie Caribisch Nederland (KPCN) kijkt terug op een succesvolle carnavalsperiode op Sint Eustatius en Saba.

Op Sint Eustatius vonden de activiteiten plaats van 17 juli tot en met 28 juli, en op Saba van 28 juli tot en met 3 augustus. Op beide eilanden zijn de activiteiten en parades over het algemeen rustig verlopen. De politie moest wel enkele keren bemiddelen om mogelijke vechtpartijen te voorkomen, waardoor zich geen ernstige incidenten hebben voorgedaan.

Naast het toezicht houden tijdens de activiteiten, het begeleiden van de parades en het handhaven van de openbare orde, controleerde de politie ook alle bestuurders van voertuigen die deelnamen aan de parade op alcoholgebruik en het bezit van een geldig rijbewijs voor het type voertuig dat zij bestuurden.

Bij alle gecontroleerde bestuurders bleken de rijbewijzen in orde en zijn de blaastests succesvol afgelegd. Dergelijke controles zullen ook in de toekomst blijven plaatsvinden.

Het KPCN bedankt de carnavalscommissies op beide eilanden en alle ketenpartners voor de goede samenwerking gedurende deze periode, en kijkt uit naar een volgende editie die opnieuw veilig en succesvol verloopt.

SABA/SINT EUSTATIUS: KPCN LOOKS BACK ON A SAFE AND SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL SEASON

The Bottom/Oranjestad,-The Dutch Caribbean Police Force (KPCN) looks back on a successful carnival season on Sint Eustatius and Saba.

Activities on Sint Eustatius took place from the 17^th of July till the 28^th of July, and on Saba from the 28^th of July 28th till the 3^rd of August. On both islands, the events and parades generally proceeded peacefully. Police officers did have to intervene on several occasions to prevent potential fights, which helped avoid any serious incidents.

In addition to monitoring the festivities, escorting the parades, and maintaining public order, the police also checked all drivers of vehicles participating in the parades for alcohol consumption and possession of a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle they were operating.

All checked drivers had valid licenses and passed the breathalyzer tests successfully. Similar checks will continue to take place in the future.

KPCN thanks the carnival committees on both islands and all partners for the good cooperation during this period and looks forward to another safe and successful edition in the future.
